Will this device measure levels of Pentane at floor height?

No, this unit measure EX LEL combustibles in the EX LEL or explosiveness and safety purposes. It seems you need something more sensitive, in the PPM range.

Can this detect pure hydrogen?

I've never actually tried mine on pure hydrogen, but it has an LEL sensor which is supposed to detect all combustible gasses. It works by heating a little element on the inside. If the element is exposed to combustible gas, it gets hotter, and that indicates to the machine that combustible gasses are present. Any combustible gas should trigger the sensor. LEL is an abbreviation for Lower Explosive Limit, so any potentially explosive gas should be sensed by the machine. Having said that, I would suggest testing it in the presence of a small amount of hydrogen first, just to be sure. You don't want to risk your life on this if you're not certain.

Can the combustibles reading (% lel) be converted via a correction coefficient to get a reading in ppm for specific chemicals such as toluene or nmp?
