Better than the fan-forced, bigger white plastic-y ones. This is metal and a good shell. Quiet too. I ordered a second. The wire is real thick and does not get hot. Stays cold, actually. Whole machine stays cool, except for the front metal grate. There is only one setting, on or off. I don't get the strong burning chemical plastic smell which I'm very sensitive to. This has a small one out of the box, but it wore away.
