very nice (forced) upgrade
Been rocking the HUSBZB-1 for about 5 years now and had a zigbee issue that looked like the zigbee radio failed. Z-wave was not an issue, so maybe it was just a config file? I don't know. Either way, got this and migrated from the zigbee integration to z2m - and wow - I've been missing so much. So the amazing stuff: 1. It's ethernet. this alone should be the reason to get it, it's not restricted to be connected via USB, it can be literally anywhere that network cables exist. 2. It's easy to set up, just go to the associated IP (but in my case, I just had to go to HA and it auto-discovered). 3. It's fast - new technology has made significant strides and my entire network responds so much faster now. Could this also be because of z2m? Probably, but I'm willing to give the nod to this guy. Cons: 1. it's large - like very large, and kinda unsightly.

Works great! Built-in VPN. Caveats with ZHA but works with Z2M great
Works great! Built-in Wireguard VPN client so you can use this at a remote location with internet to get back to your Home Assistant. aveats with ZHA you can only have it be the only coordinator, but works with Z2M great, you can have multiple coordinators.

Though complex, these are AWESOME coordinators / routers...
Pros: * POE makes positioning these a breeze. No more "dead zones." * Rock-solid in both Zigbee coordinator and router roles. * Role for Matter/Thread is currently in beta, which may offer a bit of future proofing Cons: * A bit pricey (purchased 3 at ~$65 each). * These are not "plug and play" like a USB coordinator, you need some IT/HA/Z2M experience to get them configured Locations: * The coordinator is located roughly in the center of the primary floor. * One router in the basement on one end of the house. * One router in the upstairs hallway on the opposite end of the house. Technology Environment: Home Assistant OS virtualized on Proxmox with ZigBee2MQTT integration. Experience: These devices are not for someone looking for an "it just works" Zigbee installation, however, the complexity gives you the power to build the foundation for an extremely strong mesh. Changing roles requires flashing between different firmwares, which if that is something you have never done before, may be a bit confusing though it is all possible from a WebUI hosted on the device itself accessible through LAN/WiFi. If you are already familiar with Z2M, especially if your current coordinator is already not direct-attached USB, getting these devices deployed and configured should be well within your reach. I completely re-built my mesh after installation and fortified even more with some router-capable devices like smart plugs. We now have coverage to practically every square foot of our home.

Did not work for Smart Wings / Home Assistant
Seemed like a nice product but: 1) The USB power socket broke with mild pressure, 2) Using POE it powers on, but barely functions.... the web interface comes up, I can update firmware, etc., but it refuses to finish pairing Smart Wings blinds into Home Assistant. It _sometimes_ can start device interview, but usually doesn't even get that far and never finishes (even with device 20 ft away).

Should have purchased it sooner.
Despite the seemingly constant stream of firmware updates coming from the manufacturer, this device has been completely stable and reliable on my Zigbee network. It hooks into Home Assistant with a "Silver" quality integration and works like a charm.

Works with Home Assistant, support is sketchy or non-existent from my experience.
I use one of these for both Zigbee and Thread. I'm not exactly happy with thread performance as I seem to have limited range. Needed several routers to add coverage. I tried to contact the vendor twice, but got not response, hence my 4 stars. These devices work great with Home Assistant. The Zigbee interface is Ethernet (POE), and the Thread is connected via passthru USB over proxmox powered by POE.

Decent Performance, Major Privacy Red Flag
The SMLight coordinator functions well as a smart home hub. It's reliable and integrates nicely with my other devices, performing its core duties without a hitch. However, a serious concern prevents a higher rating. My network monitoring consistently shows an extremely high volume of connection attempts (hundreds of thousands daily!) from this device to servers in China (e.g., aliyuncs.com). This sheer volume is alarming because it suggests excessive and potentially unnecessary data transmission to a region with different data privacy standards. While some cloud communication is expected, this level of persistent outbound traffic raises significant privacy and security questions about what data is being sent and why so frequently. Until these connections are explained or mitigated by the manufacturer, it's difficult to fully trust this device on a home network. It's a good product hobbled by a concerning privacy issue. Pros: * Reliable smart home coordination * Good device integration Cons: * Excessive and unexplained connection attempts to servers in China, raising significant privacy concerns.

Unique device for DIY Home Assistant without a HA box
Excellent for Home Assistant, recognized right away on MAC OS version while USB dongles are such a pain to use as USB ports need virtual machines or code writing. Hook up this on the network, devices start to show. I wasted months trying to have quite a few USB options, none worked for me. I only spent 15 minutes max with this, my main zigbee devices showed in seconds.
