Acclaimed picture book biographer Jeanette Winter has found her perfect subject: Jane Goodall, the great observer of chimpanzees. Follow Jane from her childhood in London watching a robin on her windowsill, to her years in the African forests of Gombe, Tanzania, invited by brilliant scientist Louis Leakey to observe chimps, to her worldwide crusade to save these primates who are now in danger of extinction, and their habitat. Young animal lovers and Winter's many fans will welcome this fascinating and moving portrait of an extraordinary person and the animals to whom she has dedicated her life. The Watcher was named a Best Book of the Year by the Boston Globe , Kirkus Reviews , Booklist , and the Bank Street College of Education. A perfect role model for little girls
In this day and age of commercialisation and selfishness we need role models that show the value of working for causes greater than your self. Jane Goodall is such a person, giving her life entirley to chimps, but without ever loosing sight of her humanity. This simple book walks us through her life and work in clear and simple steps. A great excuse to talk to the kids about conservation issues. Also a good companion to Me... Jane which focuses more on her early life and is aimed for slightly younger kids.

What a great book for all ages
I stumbled upon this book last weekend and I'm glad I did. The kidders in my life love it and the adults are inspired by the story. The illustrations are top notch. It arrived quickly and as promised.

👍
This book really captured my kids’ attention. They both enjoyed it (4yo, 2yo) It focuses more on her life and an overview of her work than details about chimps.

Wonderful intro to Jane Goodall
I bought this book for my almost 4 yr old daughter. She loves it. It is the boiled down version of her life and how she came to be a famous protector for her beloved apes. The text and illustrations are clear and keep the story moving at a good pace.
