Bought this as was having trouble with fluffy algae and biofilm was significantly more than normal. So to help get the tank under control I purchased this. It's worked great and helped sort the rank and get back to normal. You don't need much at all

Been using this product for a year or two and found it to be effective. Just follow the instuctions on the container.....the correct dosing rate is smaller than you might think and certainly smaller than a lot of the videos on YouTube that show people using huge quantities of this stuff. The phosphate removal is rapid (just three days) after which the beads may be exhausted. The phosphate binds with the beads to offer a one way transference, meaning that if you left the beads in the sump or filter they wouldn't leach out phosphate back into the tank. I'd recommend buying some zipped mesh bags from the online seller of your choice to hold the beads in the sump. I have to say that I don't like using this stuff...but it's a necessary evil. Water changes, macro algae harvesting in the sump, mangrove plants growing in the tank, low livestock levels, not over feeding are all preferable to using chemical removal of phosphates, but sometimes we need a hand getting the water parameters back on track! I also find that corals shrink back significantly after I use this product and some become discoloured. I've noticed it time after time. It defintitely upsets certain inhabitants of my tank. As the product becomes exhausted they all resume their usual selves. I want to love Phosguard but some of my corals hate it. Feed less, stock less, more water changes....my mantra! But..this stuff works!

Very pleased with this, like all Seachem products you get what you pay for. After testing phosphate with an API Phosphate test kit it was off the scale, I tried Phosguard and after 2 weeks it was completely and safely absorbed. The test kit revealed normal levels in my 100l Malawi aquarium. Removed and replaced with a smaller bag to keep on top of it following normal water changes.

I have tried many products, but this one actually works. It made a massive difference.

Been using it for about 7weeks and as instructed -= small amount frequently i.e. every 7 days. The pellets do turn from white to a light brown over a week, I think it helps but it's not as good as the advertising suggests. Having goldfish means live plants don't last, but in their absence, brown diatoms algae arose. Deep clean. glass scraping, and adding marimo moss balls as a substitute for live plants seem to be getting it under control, but do not necessarily expect fast results if you go for this option. Patience is very much needed.

Had a phosphate reading of 2ppm and bought this to try and reduce it. Popped the required amount in mesh bag and put it in my 125l freshwater tank. Used a Small Fluval U1 filter to increase water flow through the bag. 4 days later and it’s now 0ppm and really pleased. Brown algae that was appearing all over my tank has stopped spreading. Good stuff!

The product should provide a far greater surface area for bacteria to colonise as it is like pumice. However, a number of tubs I have purchased had contained other hard stones that when you wash the dust off you see are different and I pick these out. Not that there are many but some batches worse than others but something to note but possibly part of the process and unavoidable rather than deliberate. However, there is no disclaimer on the product that there may be other stones included. But they do state on Website FAQ's there may be discoloration with the stones, but for me these look and feel different. I still rate the product despite this and would not change as used in all my filters.

This stuff is fantastic. Turns out that our city water is high in silica and also has some phosphates in it. This was building up in our fish tanks and causing brown algae. We started putting this PhosGuard in the filters and within 2 weeks both silica and phosphates were at zero and the brown algae has stopped growing. I just add 1/4 cup of this inside the filters along with the charcoal. Now that we know the water was the cause, we will use filtered water from now on. I also purchased test kits for both phosphates and silica so I could watch the levels drop and test my house water. Now that the levels are to zero, I may not need to use this anymore since we will use filtered water to prevent the silica and phosphates from getting in the fish tank to begin with. But this stuff did the trick! If you have brown algae, then you need this to remove these things the algae feeds off of. As for the filter usage: our pump on our 55Gal tank has two large rectangular filters that the water flows thru like a waterfall. With those filters it is easy to add the PhosGuard. And we replace each of the filters once a week, on different days. We replace the left filter on Wednesdays and the replace the right filter on Saturdays.

I received the packet yesterday, however the container is very old and lot of scratches even the container was not sealed and it was open. I am worried if this is not a used product, stickers are pulled out . I am worried as it may completely mess up my marine setup. Kindly comment please.

Per me un prodotto eccezionale. Dopo un giorno che ho messo il prodotto nel filtro esterno del mio 200 lt, la mattina al mio risveglio l'acqua era cristallina, limpidissima mentre il giorno prima era "opaca", annebbiata. Se contrasta le alghe ancora non lo so perché lo uso oggi da due giorni ma a livello di limpidezza nell' acqua ha fatto miracoli e questo mi fa ben sperare che contrasti anche le alghe. Consiglio al 100%
