No. You need to have the base game already. This really is an expansion pack. You can play the base game without this. You cannot play this without the base game.

Is this a standalone game, or do I need to know (or own) the original boardgame?

This is a completely seperate game to the original 7 wonders. It is standalone and designed for two players. Plays very differently to the original.

So one answer says this is standalone, the other say its an expansion - can somebody please clarify?

7 Wonders Duel is a stand-alone game (you do not need the 7 Wonders game to play Duel). 7 Wonders Duel - Pantheon is an expansion to 7 Wonders Duel (i.e. to play Pantheon you need to have Duel).

What language is this in?
