Good Quality
Not a great deal to go wrong here tbh, simple tool but worth having as part of your bike tools, this item is well made using decent stainless steel material (not sure of the grade) but feels good, engraved either end with 75% & 100% wear indicator, all in all well made with no sharp edges. Packaging & delivery as described by seller. Will definately recommend.

nice easy tool to keep in my kit
nice easy tool to keep in my kit. I now know when I need a new chain rather than guess when I need one. Thanks Len.

They're shaped this way for a reason
While looking around for a chain checker, I was immediately puzzled by this one. Why does it have long spikes when all the others just have a short nub? It turns out that the long spikes are what makes this one better than all the others. Where the others can basically only give you a "yes" or "no" answer as to whether your chain is .75% or 1% stretched, this one gives you an indication, if the answer is "no", of how close you are to that value, by how far down the spike will go. So you can get an idea of whether it's likely to need replacing soon, or not for ages, and thus, how soon you should check again. Accuracy seems good. One of my chains needs replacing and it showed that by the spike going all the way down. The other two don't need replacing yet, but one of them is almost new and the other is part worn, and I could clearly see the difference between them on this tool which I don't think I could on one of the nubby ones. It's a bargain given it could save you £££ on premature chainset/cassette wear; highly recommended.

Saved me a lot of money as my chain had a lot of wear and could have damaged other critical parts New chain and cassette only needed

U.K. made, works well and simple to use.
Yes the edges might be a little sharp but it is not a spanner, so you are not going to be handling this with any force at all where is is likely to hurt your hands. The markings are easy to see, it is made in the U.K. in the neighbouring town to where I grew up, and is super simple to use. It drops into the chain links on all my bikes and kids bikes very easily and gives an instant measure of wear. While a bike shop or pro might need a more expensive measure, this one is absolutely fine for nearly everyone else. Recommended.

Not much use
I don't want to know when a chain is totally worn OUT. 0.5% wear would be more useful.
