Does the handle fall off?

Yep, ours fell off within about 3 months.

If you do not buy the "proper" bags, what regular bags will fit this? Will 5 litre cheapo bags be ok?

Yes - not the neatest and tidiest fit but they will certainly work. These 5L bags were the size of bags we first had before buying our J&J compost container. I used them all while shopping around to get the best price for the "proper" 4L J&J bags (which are a perfect fit...)

How often do you need to change filter? TA

It all depends on how often and what you are throwing away. I have a excellent sense of smell and if I'm being honest the stone isn't that good! You could actually get away using any container so long as you keep it washed and cleaned regularly. I honestly don't think buying the stone makes any difference and although I was at the time very pleased with my product, I have since seen similar products in stores like Tkmax, Dunelm.... Half the price! Hope this as been helpful
