OXO Brew Pour Over Coffee Maker With Water Tank

And even more so when I found and purchased a permanent gold filter for this pour over maker. At first I was using the filters papers supplied so I bought another batch of papers. In the meantime I was "missing" some of the "oiliness" of coffee as I had known and loved it for over 60 years. My favourite brew was simply coffee grounds in the jug, a small pinch of salt*, add water just off the boil, stir, wait for it to brew, then pass it through a sieve-like "coffee strainer" and enjoying quite a bit of the "sludge" in the bottom of the cup. Perhaps "cowboy coffee" may have been a fair description? Then I discovered that there was a permanent gold filter available for the Oxo pour over and immediately bought one. I now have the very best of both worlds. Easy to brew, easy to clean up, and most importantly, the *full* coffee experience that I have enjoyed and loved over a lifetime. I don't think this device can be beaten for ease and simplicity, *and* providing coffee the way that I like it. * re "small pinch of salt" - One day, many years ago, when working offshore in the oil patch I volunteered to make the coffee for the crew on break and went through the usual rituals. I was pulled up by an old Dutchman who said, "Hey, you forgot the salt!" "Salt?" I asked, "What salt?" "You should always put a pinch of salt in your coffee," he told me. A couple of other Dutch guys in the crew nodded their approval. I thought they were taking the P but I added some salt anyway. Since I tasted that coffee that day I have *always* added a pinxch of salt to my brew. Only when someone insists on "where did you get this beautiful coffee?" do I tell them my secret. Give it a try.

I purchased this for work so I no longer have to use the horrible and cheap instant they have there. I have to say I'm really pleased with this, it avoids all the faff of a cafetière and makes really nice filter coffee. Obviously the taste will depend on the actual coffee used, and I'm looking forward to exploring in this regard. I bought a reusable filter: Titanium Coated Steel Reusable Cone Coffee Filter With Elegant Flower Of Life Patern (No.2) - which is also a great product. It's slightly too big for the Oxo but still makes a great cup of coffee - I therefore haven't used the included paper filters, so can't comment on them. It may sound a bit cheapskate, but I actually reuse the coffee by leaving it in the filter and pouring more hot water into the Oxo, and I've managed to get three cups out of it (although the 3rd was a bit of a stretch). Otherwise, just using the coffee grounds once is a bit extravagant in my mind - like I say, maybe I'm a cheapskate! A really lovely cup of coffee from a really lovely contraption.

I love this coffee maker. I am the only coffee drinker in the house & love my real coffee in the morning. I did have a small cafetière, but it was messy & difficult to clean. I have also tried with just a filter cone over a mug - but judging how much water to pour in could be tricky... This has made life so much easier and means that I get a consistent mug of coffee every morning. I also find that I need less coffee than I did in my Bodum single cup/filter setup. Having the water tank to measure the water is excellent - and the way the water slowly drips through it ensures a good brew. I usually pre-warm my mug to ensure my coffee keeps hot for longer. It is very easy to clean - dispose of the filter and grounds in the composting bin then wash everything up.

What I liked about this cup filter is the valve at the bottom. I use the Melitta Intense filter paper with this and love the fact that once I put my coffee in and fill with water, I can put the cover on top and let it brew for a few minutes to get that strong and lovely flavour. Then all I do is put it on top of the cup and let it flow through. I tried two other cup filters before this one and neither gave the flavour that I get from this. Well worth it and recommended. Looking to get another for work as well as home.

Wonderful. Had one before and left it behind - so forgotten what nice coffee I can make. Better than cafetière and much cleaner, no sludge and no washing grounds down the drain. More fiddly than a pod but worth waiting for. Pods are good when half asleep or in a hurry ! cafetière is good if you've run out of filters for the Oxo. That is the only draw back, but not so bad since get the natural ones and I go to the store all the time anyway! You do need jug, and I am using the bottom half of the cafetière!

I've been brewing pour over for years – V60 kettle, filters, and a burr grinder – but I wanted to try this to have a little less faff in the morning, since you can set it up and walk away. To my surprise, this gadget delivers a better, more consistent cup than anything I've used before. The controlled flow and the slightly reduced temperature (since the water sits in the reservoir before touching the coffee) all help bring out the best in the beans. A small thing, but the papers it comes with are really bad. Buy your own straight away.

Like others I’ve given up on French press due to cleaning mess. This is clean, simple and delivers a great cup of coffee at a decent temperature which is helped by using the supplied lid on water tank as it is dripping. Whilst the kettle is boiling I take some of the warming water from it and put through the holder to wet paper and warm mug.

Idiot-proof brewer and butter-fingers proof too. I have a coffee machine and a Hario Switch. I use this the most because it’s the perfect size for a single cup of coffee. Just add water and let it drip and you get great tasting coffee.

Flexibility: I like a big (12 fl oz) cup of strong black coffee first thing in the morning. It was difficult to find a quality pour over maker that takes the entire 12 ounce serving in a single pour. As with any pour over maker I can adjust the amount of grounds to add as wells the ability to blend the flavors used. So I now have the flexibility to get the full desired serving size, adjust the strength of my coffee and brew it from my own chosen blends. Simplicity: I set up my coffee maker before bed time and have one of those instant hot water dispensers at the sink. So all I need to do in the morning is draw 12 ounces of instant hot water, pour the entire serving into the reservoir and replace the lid (to hold in the heat). Speed: In a matter of about 2 minutes, my customized cup of coffee is waiting at the perfect temperature to enjoy immediately - no cooling needed. What about K pods? I have been a serious fan of K pod coffee for decades but I never met one that could all of the above. I did not run the numbers regarding cost or savings (yet) but my gut feel tells me that using ground coffee instead of the prepackaged K pods has got to be more economical. The Process: Step 1). Place a (brown) #2 paper filter in the hopper and add whatever amount or blend of ground coffee you want (I like Starbucks Verona and Peet's Sumatra 50-50) and I make it with 2 TBS of each flavor (4 total per serving). Put the hopper (containing the filter and grounds) on an empty mug. Put the clear plastic reservoir on top of the hopper, then put the lid on top to help keep it fresh until you actually pour (which for me is the next morning). Step 2). Add hot water in whatever amount delivers your favorite strength. This takes a bit of practice. As mentioned (for me) it is 12 fl oz of instant hot water to 4 table spoons of custom blended grounds. Step3). Wait a few minutes. The bottom of the clear plastic reservoir has 8 small holes arranged in a circular pattern that get positioned over the grounds in the hopper below. The reservoir holes are of two different sizes. I assume this causes water to flow at different rates over different parts of the grounds, which I think has a bearing on the quality of the brew as it is extracted. The bottom of the hopper (beneath the filter) has a single hole that I believe drains more slowly than the water coming in from the reservoir. This allows the brew to accumulate a little bit soaking the grounds before the coffee drains out completely which I presume affects the quality of the brew that ends up in my mug. Step 4). Enjoy! Note: If I had to use only this method for all my coffee, it would be too inconvenient. But breaking the prep process into 2-parts (one before bed time and one upon waking) helps make using this system simple and fast. So if I want a second cup but without bothering with measuring grinds or water I use a K pod as I still believe you can't beat the K pods for convenience but you cannot adjust the strength, flavor or serving size with a K pod without affecting the results. Bottom Line for the Review: I fully intend to use the pour over and the K pod coffee systems but am absolutely sold on the Pour Over system for my first cup of morning coffee. If you want to be able to adjust such things as serving size, strength, and custom blends for your coffee, I highly recommend this product.

Great product, especially with the 3 percolators for water onto the coffee grounds. Because of the percolators, boiling water does not need to sit to cool down for too long before making the coffee. The water does an even distribution of pour to the grounds to allow it to soak consistently and enough for proper brewing. I believe the type of filter you use will alter the taste of your coffee too. I have used and am using the same paper filter for this coffee dripper and the coffee tastes so much better! Great buy. One wish is that they make one out of glass. Not too sure on the hot water on plastic. It seems to be pretty durable though.
