excellent little book
This is a smashing little book, an extension of part of Tales from Outer Suburbia. Shaun Tan is an impressive designer and illustrator and I have yet to be disappointed with anything he has a hand in - his web site is well worth a visit and I would recommend it at shauntan.net. The book is filled with delightful pencil drawings, and based around the very pleasing but simple story of an unexpected visitor. A tiny feel good tale, lovingly crafted.

More excellence from Shaun Tan
Shaun Tan writes, and more importantly, illustrates books with poignant messages. This small book has so much to talk about while reading, a great message for us all explained simply. Great story to share with children of any age.

I loved this small book
I loved this small book. The pencils drawings were great. Eric was a strange creature who went to stay on an exchange visit with a family. He took to living in their larder and spent his days collecting small objects off of the streets, bottle tops, sweet wrappers and buttons etc. After a while he took his leave but left them a lovely surprise in the larder. I gave the book to my Grandson but could have kept it. It was so cute.

A little treasure of a book
Having thrown this in with a selection of classics and popular series books to mark my daughter's acceptance into the realm of the "free reader", I was rather judgmental of the size of the book (tiny) and volume of prose (minimal). However closer inspection revealed a charming story with a rich use of language covering extremely valuable topics. My daughter read it to me this evening and we dissected the words and subject matter. Afterwards, I re-read it to her and her younger brother (reception age) who found the amusing illustrations utterly hilarious and has declared that he shall be Eric for World Book Day 2020. Fantastic book for kids, thrilled at the purchased. I'm sure we'll get to the remaining books from the parcel later this week!

Love this book!
I read this book at school and fell in love with it. It is a cute story about a foreign exchange student who comes to stay, and leaves the family with a little gift. I would definitely recommend this book.

*swoon*
we all need an Eric in our lives. I think I have a major crush! I've bought 5 of these as they are perfect to add to a prezzie for that little extra sparkle (not that these have any glitter - I'm talking metaphorically). Shaun Tan's imagination is second to none - if you haven't tried him this is a terrific starter. Then get the DVD of The Lost Thing - he won an Oscar for it.

Though this e-book would have more stories about Eric than the one in Tales From Outer Surbubia, but is the same story. So I suggest check the Tales book first, price may be more worth as there are other beautiful tales. Anyway, even after so many times that I read this tale, it always excites me. Makes me smile and even drop some tears. Eric is lovely, I will probably tattoo him someday.

Was lovely but very little! I thought was bigger than that.

I bought this book as part of a unit plan I was making on Shaun Tan. It's a really sweet book for both children and adults, about a 30-second read! But there's a lot more to it than the text. If you read between the lines and take time to appreciate the illustrations, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
