The Very Best of The Doors

Great Album if you like the doors it's good value for Money

I have at one time and another possessed several Doors compilations and feel that "The Very Best Of The Doors" is the strongest of them all. The selection of tracks is very good - the usual greats 'Light My Fire' and 'Riders On The Storm'. First rate covers 'Back Door Man' and 'Alabama Song'. Also other excellent and somewhat lesser known songs such as 'Peace Frog', 'Love Street' and the sublime 'The Crystal Ship' are included. The version of 'The End' is the abridged one from the film 'Apocalypse Now'. I notice from other reviews that some objected to this, but i found it interesting to have a different take on this well known epic. For me the finest single disc compilation of this remarkable band.

Good quality pre owned, worth the money

Outstanding quality sound, really worth picking up this remaster/remix compilation, easily the best sound I've heard of these tracks, very well done and if you're into your Audiophile sound, I doubt you'll be disappointed, well unless your setup has issues.. again just outstanding!

The second-hand cd I bought as 'very good' was unplayable until it was given a good clean with a cloth. I had not heard The Doors for years, was not even a great fan in my early teens (14 in 67) as I was brought up with Mozart, Bach, Brahms and Sibelius (Finlandia and Valse Triste) and not least as my best friend's older brother played the band so loud that the whole house threatened to crumble and fall to pieces on the ground. I feel fortunate to be alive today and at that almost long forgotten time to play Light My Fire at a more tolerable volume at home as my parents in their 60s were certainly no fans of rock-and-roll, though my father quite liked a few years later(69) Robin Gibb's Saved by the Bell which was also played at full throttle half a mile away (but not by me). I am sorry I never played Moon of Alabama to my parents which I still think is wonderfull. And if the World exists in a 1000 years' time, it will still be played with pleasure. Mark my prophetic words"!! Also very good and perhaps as prophetic is 'The End', and the hole cd contains probably the very best of the Doors. The booklet is a little gem too with fine photos, beautiful comments by the members of the band and a very informative text. Buy it quickly! It is great!

This remastered version is amazing. I played it for the first time in my car today. The sound was excellent.

¿Qué decir de este gran grupo? Probablemente sea la más atemporal, imperecedera, socialmente crítica y mítica banda de rock que hayan ofrecido al mundo los Estados Unidos de América. Catapultado su trabajo y su fama por la muerte prematura de su líder, Jim Morrison, los Doors abrieron las puertas a la inmortalidad con temas como "The End", que fue uno de los sensacionales puntos fuertes de la legendaria película bélica 'Apocalypse Now' de Francis Ford Coppola. Pero "The End" no solo fue un emblemático tema del antibelicismo del grupo, sino desde el punto de vista musical, el mejor de toda su discografía, habiendo aparecido en su primer álbum de 1967. Este tema fue pionero del nihilismo en el rock e influyó en el punk rock y en el movimiento contracultural o "underground" llamado gótico, surgido veinte años después. Pero antes había influido en el surgimiento del rock progresivo británico con sus propuestas fluctuantes y disonantes de la psicodelia musical y la duración elevada de su minutaje de más de cinco minutos, cuando lo habitual en los años sesenta era que las canciones no superasen los cuatro. La versión de "The End" en el presente recopilatorio es la abreviada por el equipo de producción de 'Apocalypse Now' para la sincronización a las imágenes del film, con los efectos sonoros de los rotores de los helicópteros que aparecen en pantalla. Pero además de 'The End' hay otros temas legendarios del grupo que transciende épocas y que ya son clásicos no importa qué género o estilo como "Light My Fire", "Soul Kitchen" o "Roadhouse Blues". No sobra ninguno, bueno, quizá alguno con un sonido más pop y que se aleja del tono general de blues rock y psicodélico que caracteriza a The Doors, pero no es obstáculo para dar la máxima puntuación a este recopilatorio de sonido excepcional con la RCA en la remasterización. Nuevas mezclas que rejuvenecen y actualizan las canciones y magnífica ecualización del sonido entre las diferentes canciones, producen en el oyente la sensación de estar ante un producto recién grabado, cuando hace medio siglo que estos temas ya habían salido a la luz.

Normally hear some of these songs on the radio. Decided to order this double cd. Price wise was a fantastic bargain. Finally arrived well before it estimated date.
