Mastery: The Keys to Success And Long-Term Fulfillment

I cannot praise this book highly enough. It was recommended almost as an aside in a blog post I read. It offers a penetrating critique of modern culture and its obsession with quick-fixes and instant solutions. Instead it offers another understanding of success based upon ancient traditions found both in the West and the East - the idea of the Journey to Mastery. Full of insights on what mastery is and isn't, how to get there, what can get in the way (and how to overcome the common barriers), it is both practical and well written. It is applicable to anything from tennis to marriage and from the classroom to the boardroom. Best book I've read so far this year.

One of my all-time favourite books, this book is one of the most undervalued books I have ever read. Mastery should be in every home and library of any successful person.

A very useful book which addresses a lot of important issues about learning any art, not just martial arts or sport. George Leonard had a big influence on me and I respect him very much - my only criticism is, he doesn't deal much with the emotional issues that can impede mastery. For example, insecurity, jealousy, perfectionism, ego. Otherwise a great book and also covers business and relationship issues.

Honest, real and so easy to read. I read the whole thing over an italian meal while working away. Are you a dabbler, a hacker or an obsessive? I worked out straight away that I was a dabbler and it has helped informed my thinking about quite a few areas. Very realistic indeed. If you are serious about mastery a good buy.

Brilliant. Absorb it and learn.

Read this a little while ago so my recollection is not perfect, but there are certainly other books out there that do a better job. Still a good read.

Brilliant book by a great master of Akido. We can apply the wisdom that has been passed down in this book to other areas of life and achieve more and make our life better.

Very much enjoyed reading this book, and it was quite motivational. However, other than the mastery curve ('love the plateau!') I didn't feel I got a life changing amount out of it...

L'un des meilleurs livres que j'ai eu le bonheur de dévorer...il est rare qu'un auteur avec un tel degré d'excellence ait une écriture aussi pleine d'humilite, d'intelligence d'esprit, de perspicacité. Il nous fait voyager au travers de sa propre expérience pour nous enseigner ce dont je n'aurai jamais pensé. Il nous donne des leçons en toute modestie mais qui sont réellement à intégrer et ce, quel que soit votre niveau social, background, situation personnelle ou professionnelle. Il se met tout simplement à notre hauteur qu'on soit parent, enfant, femme au foyer ou travailleur acharné....dans le développement personnel, c'est celui que je recommande car il est en marge des autres et des superlatifs à l'américaine. Son titre quant à lui "Mastery" vous en découvrirez le sens qui est tout sauf pompeux...

L'autore mostra le diverse attitudini che ognuno di noi può avere nell'affrontare un percorso, un problema, una sfida. Devo dire che oltre che illuminante e divertente, il libro insegna veramente tanto e reputo che ogni persona che vuole migliorarsi e che voglia raggiungere degli obiettivi nella vita lo debba leggere. Stra-consigliato. Ah, l'inglese è abbastanza abbordabile (livello medio). Spero di esservi stato di aiuto. Ciao!
