When it says add up to three modules does that mean three more than the unit came with indoor and outdoor or is it three total?

I have the maximum currently. This is the main unit, the outdoor unit, three additional modules and the rain unit. So it's three in addition.

I stay in an apartment. Can I just don't use the Outdoor monitor and still use the weather station ?

I understand you want to use just the main module. Yes, that will work fine. But, why not use the outdoor module to measure temp/humidity in some other part of the apartment?

No. You need the base station for sure. The base station comes with the internal "base" and the outside unit. This base station is different than the additional modules. The base is required for anything to work at all and they don't sell it without the outdoor unit.Just to comment on the first posters message, I have 3 additional modules and the rain gauge, and they are truly 100%. I have never had the slightest issue in a large house.
