Been using the MAONO PD100 for a while now, and I'm very happy. It's more than good for the price, it's just plain good. I primarily use the microphone to create spoken word content. It has great off-axis sound rejection and a full frequency response. Tonally, it's a bit brighter than the Shure SM7B; but the low frequencies are still present and accurate. This little guy punches way above its weight. Well worth the money.

I work with microphones, interfaces, and mobile studio setups regularly, so I always try to review products from a real-world creator’s perspective—especially when it comes to budget-friendly gear that actually works. I purchased the MAONO PD100S XLR dynamic microphone, and while my unit unfortunately arrived with cosmetic damage from shipping, I still made sure to test it before returning it. Performance-wise, it gave me a very clear picture of what this mic is capable of—and there’s a lot to like here. Build Quality & First Impressions Right out of the box, the build quality stood out immediately. The PD100S has a solid metal construction, feels durable, and honestly punches above its price point in terms of physical quality. Even with the cosmetic damage my unit had, it worked perfectly—which says a lot about how sturdy this mic actually is. The design is compact, clean, and professional, and the “talk to the mic top” cardioid pickup is clearly intended for podcasting and voice work. Once positioned correctly, it stays focused on your voice while doing a good job rejecting background noise. What’s Included (Big Value Here) One of the strongest points of the PD100S is that it’s a true all-in-one XLR microphone bundle, which is huge for creators just getting into XLR setups. In the box you get: • MAONO PD100S dynamic XLR microphone • Adjustable boom arm (seriously underrated perk at this price) • 6.56 ft XLR cable which is amazing cord length if other brands do include and cord it’s usually the 3 footer • User manual The included boom arm is a big win. A lot of entry-level XLR mics don’t include one, and this makes it incredibly easy to get up and running without buying extra accessories. The mic also includes an inner double-layer pop filter, which helps tame plosives without needing an external windscreen. It connected right away with no issues. Sound Quality — Solid Out of the Box, Shines with EQ Out of the box, the PD100S delivers clean, natural audio with a warm tone that works well for podcasting, streaming, vocal recording, and gaming. It has a 60Hz–14kHz frequency response, with a slight mid-range presence that helps vocals sit forward in the mix. That said, this mic really comes alive with EQ. Once I ran it through my interface and applied some basic EQ, the sound gained clarity, depth, and polish—easily competing with microphones that cost more. For creators who have a mixer or audio interface and know how to shape their sound even a little, this mic offers excellent value. I’m keeping the rating at 3 stars, not because the mic is bad (it’s not), but because: • Some creators don’t have access to EQ tools yet • Without EQ, the sound is good but not “wow” With EQ, though, it’s a completely different story. Why This Put MAONO on My Radar Trying the PD100S—combined with another recent purchase—really put MAONO on my radar as a brand to watch. I also purchased the MaonoCaster E2 Gen2, and it has completely replaced my previous audio interface in my mobile/travel studio. It’s now a permanent part of my setup, which honestly surprised me in the best way. Because of that experience, I’m genuinely interested in exploring more of MAONO’s lineup: • The Wave T5 wireless lav combo is absolutely next on my list. My audience constantly asks for budget-friendly wireless lav systems, and the Wave T5 combo looks like it checks all the right boxes—especially for creators who need wireless audio that works with both cameras and mobile setups. • The PD400X is a very close second. If the PD100S performs this well at its price point, I’m very curious to see if the PD400X could do what the MaonoCaster E2 Gen2 already did—replace what I was previously using. There’s a real chance it could replace both microphones I currently use on my podcast. Final Thoughts The MAONO PD100S is a great entry-level XLR dynamic microphone with: • Excellent build quality • A complete starter bundle (boom arm + XLR cable included) • Clean, focused vocal capture • Strong performance once EQ is applied It’s an easy mic to recommend for podcasters and streamers building a budget-friendly but serious setup. I’m excited to keep exploring MAONO gear, and based on my experience so far, this brand is absolutely punching above its weight. Ok, so Not a complete 100% because it needs more gain, but overall not a bad mic FWIW. I needed a dynamic mic for simple work (nothing too professional. Internet radio stuff) and the dynamic mic was the best fit. In my studio, I needed to take advantage of how the dynamic mic worked having to be closer to the mic as its less sensitive and needs you to be closer. That said, I already had a Maono AU A04 which is a good USB mic, but picks up too much ambient background. This dynamic mic seems to pickup very well for what I need and is not as sensitive to ambient sounds. I produce content on Youtube where I have a challenge with my shotgun mic (Synco) picking up everything and this one in my test does the trick. I do have to EQ this in a rather surgical way, attentuating some offending frequencies, but I think I dialed it in now. I do have the gain all the way up and still have to boost the gain in the DAW. What a shame. But overall, I can work with it. So... Its got a good, non-boxy sound to it which yes, you still have to do some EQ, but the EQ isn't heinous. Good mic and not if it will stand the test of time... I might review it again. Recommended: Yes. Depending on what you need to do. UPDATE: Do be careful tho. It does seem to have a bit of self noise and mine tends to pickup some EMF. THAT is on my end, not the mic, but the self noise can be mitigated with EQ. Also, its a bit quiet. You'll have to amp it up a bit, which can exacerbate the self noise.

There's not a great deal more that I can say that hasn't already been said. This mic has a nice, warm sound, good build quality, good noise and feedback rejection, all at a fantastic price. Use a FET preamp such as Fethead or cloud lifter. I was feeling adventurous and disassembled the mic so you can see what's inside. Edit on 9/14/24 I recorded a song with this mic and the tone is good. Sensitivity is good across the dynamic range of my voice when singing. My only issue is the peaks are a little distorted due to overdriving the input into the computer software. I only used a little EQ and added a very short delay and room reverb. My wife and kids were upstairs and not really being quiet but none of that shows up in the recording. The recording chain is as follows: Maona mic > Triton Audio Fethead > Mixer > USB interface > Audacity. I wanted to show what the most basic setup could get you in terms of sound quality If you play the video you can tell that the way the mic picks up my voice is very consistent. There isn't a need for lots of EQ or compression unless there's a specific sound you are trying to get by doing so. Another reviewer mentioned offending frequencies but I didn't really notice any of that. Even the low end is flattering for my voice, which is unusual since I tend to roll off the lows quite a bit with other mics. This means that the male vocal range will do well with this in DJ, podcasting or voice-over work. Overall, I am very happy with this mic.

Seriously...I'm a fairly picky tech guy when it comes to video and audio production. These sound absolutely terrific. Yeah, the big names have a slightly better tone, but it's only noticeable in direct side by side sound checks IMO. If you're looking for a great busget friendly mic, get this.

To be up front, my favorite speaking mic for my voice is my beta SM58a. However, it really belongs on my mic stand for live gigs and rehearsals. I wanted something sleeker, while still durable that could sit full time at my work/streaming area. This gets the job done at a ridiculous price. First, it’s got a great design. The hinge is located in the optimal location of the mic to keep it balanced and the weight is light enough for a cheap desk connected boom arm. It looks highly professional with its metal chassis and is sized just right. Sonically it’s warm and vintage sounding. Goes for the SM58/SM7B profile. Opposite the PodMic, which is crisp and clear. That’s personal preference and depends on use. I run mine through a compressor which I always suggest with XLR mics so you have freedom to move without drastic volume shifts. Get it. Theres a reason it says ‘Low Returns’. (If you’re recording vocals for music, go for a Sennheiser or Shure)

Este micrófono es un buen producto por la relación calidad-precio. A la fecha sigue funcionando correctamente. Si deseas mayor calidad en tu audio considera comprar un equipo distinto, este micrófono no le pide mucho a los micrófonos de altas gamas, sin embargo puede no ser lo que esperas. En general cumple su función es un buen equipo con las tres veces bueno bonito y barato.

Para ser un micrófono económico, se escucha muy bien, sin duda lo recomiendo.
