The Fountain Tarot: Illustrated Deck and Guidebook

Before using this deck, my main experience with tarot involved the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith and the Lightseers Tarot (both of which I recommend!). Out of a selection of decks I was looking at this one stood out to me - the ethereal quality and neutral feeling of the images really appealed to me, and I wanted a deck that gave me a different experience from the ones I'd used so far - I absolutely love the Lightseers Tarot and still use it all the time, but it's mostly bright and vivid, so I was keen to see what a different deck would do for me too. The Fountain Tarot was absolutely the right choice for my next deck - the images are beautiful, enigmatic and provoke deep insight, and the feel is indeed very neutral - almost zen-like, perhaps. I find it gives a certain kind of clarity in readings that I really appreciate! It also has a dreamlike quality that I love. I use it most days now for readings and I'm always getting more and more out of it. It definitely makes for a great second or third deck once you're familiar with the traditional tarot imagery and meanings, but I'm sure a total beginner could also learn with it if they wanted to. The quality of the cards feel nice, the box is great - and I appreciate the meanings given in the small guidebook too, it's always nice to get the creator's take on their deck and the particular meanings they associate with the cards. All in all, I have only great things to say about it - I would absolutely recommend! :)

The artwork is stunning and I think the colours are very vibrant and beautiful. I have read that people find the colours washed out but I don't get that feeling at all working with this. The designs also have a lot going on in each card so that I get a lot of clear information from each reading. I have about 30 decks and this is one of my favourites. It just gives such clear messages and is so nice nice to look at because of the beautiful paintings. The only complaint I have is that the cardstock is thin and flimsy, though the silver gilding is pretty. It comes in a good quality box so I didn't need to get a separate bag. Overall, it is such a fantastic deck, and I reach for it over and over for readings, so I'm still giving it 5 stars despite the thin cardstock.

Even the box is beautiful embossed and filled with attention to detail. The deck and book are held together with a light magnetic snap case with a ribbon inside so you never have to paw at the cards. The cards themselves are gilded on their edges, the art is sublime (I would suggest googling the deck first, they have some nice making of videos too) this page doesn't do them justice. Some have said that the guide isn't very fleshed out, but as someone who wants to use it for mentally "spitballing" rather than definite occultish interpretation its perfect and open. There are many guides to tarot reading out there, take your pick, but this book is a slim volume (reminds me of the little game manuals you'd get with 90s video games). I feel that the actual cards themselves say more than the book, they capture so many facets of meaning. They're big, but not enough so that shuffling is a problem. Mine came ever so slightly curved due to the shrink wrap but I put a heavy object on them for a day and they're straight as an arrow. Two caveats: You WILL get sparkly fingers, no escaping that. Its a sparkly trimmed deck. There is also a very faint copyright on the cards. Its unobtrusive enough to call it a watermark, but its there. I know a lot of people hate that, but I understand why they must have them as every single card is a work of art in and of itself. Thankfully subtle and you'll only notice if you're bent on looking for it.

The cards arrived well and safely packaged. The box where the cards are, is very nice and sturdy. Very nice to the touch and to look at. The cards are easy to take out due to a ribbon inside the box, which you lift to lift the cards out. The cards themselves are considerable smaller than the ones I already own (Spolia tarot), so they are comfortable to hold in your hand. Some cards do stick together, but they are easy to separate. The quality of the print and the cards themselves is really good. I was very sceptical about buying tarot cards from amazon, but they didn't disappoint. The silver sides on the cards leave some glitters on your hands for the few first times when you shuffle them, but nothing more. The cards are comfortable to use. The guide which goes with the tarot cards is very good. It is clear and concise and has keywords for both upright position of a card and the reverse. Nice touch.

Well made, quite unique tarot. Love the imagery of the Hermit with a beam of light in the darkness like torchlight in a field. Some of the court cards give a really strong impression of a specific person and are very evocative. I gave 4 stars because there’s something a little cold about the cards that is a near miss for me when I try and connect. It’s like a friend I can only get close to on occasion.

These cards are absolutely stunning. The box is beautiful and embellished and the cards themselves are fascinating. There is the added Fountain Card which makes them unique and a great addition to other traditional decks but follow the older numbering of the decks with Strength being 11 and Justice being 8! The major cards are titled at the top of the card and the minor cards are at the bottom because the art work is so unique and beautiful,more like oracle cards that for each card that it helps to tell your card straight away. The guide book is well written with clear and concise ideas for daily practise as well as spreads. If you are wary of the more traditional cards this would be a beautiful start however, or if you are experienced in Tarot these are a great addition. I often ask people to choose from my decks for their readings so this gives a softer look than Rider Waite etc. I adore these cards. They resonate beautifully with me and am so honoured to own this deck.

“The Fountain Tarot” has become a go to deck for readings befitting a contemporary mood. Solidly ensconced in the Rider-Waite tradition it, like the “Linestrider’s” deck, takes a gentle, clever artistic style and mixes it with a graphical vision that leaves a true thinking experience on its readers—one that definitely fuels intuition. Oh this deck, with its focus on contemporary dress styles and wabi-sabi settings, is gorgeous. Unlike “Lindestrider’s” though, “The Fountain Tarot” is almost a completely human-focused—and geometric—art package replacing the former’s stunning white space with pictorial background ooze. It definitely encompasses the author’s interpretation of the Rider-Waite story and offers just enough curiosity to lead readers neither one way or the other in determining a meaning at hand. Manufacturing-wise, the deck uses a robust matt cardboard stock with silver edging. Now, his did result in a concave rim forming around the circumferences of my cards sufficient to hamper table fanning and an easy hand shuffle. Yet, a tumbled rose quartz crystal run over these rims flattened them out—and while being a great way to spend time with the deck, it’s now fully responsive to touch! The only downside for me, is the deck box. Merely large enough to house the cards themselves and their instructional booklet, it too is built of a very sturdy card stock. But being high gloss and silver/black toned, it glaringly shows up any imperfections—and my box had a bumpy ride from Amazon. I’d strongly recommend a box-in-box manufacture were the publishers to ever arrange a reprint. That said, I’m absolutely enamoured with the artist’s vision in these cards (my cards arrived un-dinted by the way) making reading with them, both a pleasure and a breeze. Highly recommended for experienced readers, fans of Rider-Waite, and those new to Tarot with a flair for imagination.

Amazing artwork, the feel is the perfect mix of eclectic modern art which stays true to the traditional Rider-Waite, yet adds layers of meaning by imagery. It is one of those things you'll be glad you went ahead and got because it is one of a kind and the messages flow much more fluid.. Cardstock is pretty robust with silver gilding which has stayed - it's been three months now. The booklet of card meanings has been thought about too, to really contribute and not just be for the sake of being.

I absolutely love the ethereal artwork! The silver gilded edges are very pretty to look at. The Strength (XI) and Justice (VIII) card are reversed for those who need to know. It's tricky to riffle shuffle due to gilded edges that are sturdy. Decent cardstock and standard size. Pentacles are "Coins" instead. Follows the Rider-Waite system!

The Fountain Tarot is an exceptionally elegant and light deck. When I bought it, it was the last one available. I waited quite a while for it, about three weeks, and it arrived in a damaged, broken box. But the cards resonated with me immediately. They feel so light, and when you’re in a certain state and want to do a reading, they flow beautifully. I even changed my mind about returning them. I bonded with them so quickly that I thought, fine, the box is broken, but I don’t want to part with the deck. I didn’t want to exchange it, and I didn’t want to wait another two or three weeks for a replacement. Overall, the design, the guidebook, and the cards themselves are all excellent. And despite the damaged box, I’m not going to lower my rating.
