![Re-Animator (2 Disc) [Blu-ray]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51M-owsS3-L.jpg)

One of the most celebrated, outrageous and original horror films of all time, Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator is a darkly comic tale that 'upped the '80's gore ante at a time when blood was already flowing freely' (Total Film). Brilliant, if somewhat deranged, medical student Herbert West arrives at Miskatonic Medical School and immediately sneers at his professor's outdated views on death. West has his own outlandish theories and has concocted a serum that will bring the dead back to life. Roping in fellow student Dan Cain their shocking experiments work all too well with horrific and very messy results. Bonus Features: - The 'Unrated' Version - brand new 4K restoration - The 'Integral' Version (exclusive to Blu-ray) - Audio commentary with director Stuart Gordon - Audio commentary with producer Brian Yuzna, and actors Jeffrey Combs, Robert Sampson, Barbara Crampton and Bruce Abbott - Re-Animator Resurrectus documentary - Interviews with Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna, writer Dennis Paoli composer Richard Band and Fangoria editor Tony Timpone - Extended scenes, deleted scene and trailers - Gallery Review: Great 80’s horror! - I first saw this on a butchered Tartan dvd many years ago and ruined by the film censors, Eventually bought the uncut R1 and UK blu ray and now this excellent Second Sight 4K & 2x blu rays with book & picture cards. Bought it from desertcart on Tuesday and arrived 2 days later. Re-animator one of my all time fave horrors and Stuart Gordons best film. The old school sfx are great as is the acting in this horror with comedic scenes. Oh yes Barbara Crampton is gorgeous! Review: Hp lovecrafts best film - Love this film. Great comedy horror 10/10

Dont go in the basement
Ive heard through the grapevine the tales of Herbert West and how good this film is. And that its a must watch for any fan of horror special effects. And finally, for us brits, we can own it on blu-ray thanks to Second Sight. Comes with 2 cuts of the film. The unrated (director preferred) and integral (combines unrated and extra scenes filmed for tv. Technically making it the fullest version). The unrated cut is a 4k restoration whilst the integral cut is standard blu-ray. I can only speak for the integral cuts quality (i decided to dive straight in) - it looks and sounds great! Has me giddy to see the quality of the 4k restoration of the unrated cut. Has some great extras too (if thats your thing).

"..TOP CLASSIC MUST OWN HORROR.."
This is one of the best horror movies ever made, an absolute set in stone classic from the 80's! Great story full of insanity and madness and creative ideas, brilliant cast especially the over the top and eccentric actor Jeffery Combs! This movie is notable over time for its insane bloody gore scenes and great practical effects and nice nude scenes, a must own, a gem for any horror fan to have in their collection. 2014 STEELBOOK BY SECOND SIGHT the steelbook is a great package, lots of good special features including 2 commentaries and a hour long making of plus interviews etc. You get the full unrated uncut version on disc 1 86mins and the Integral cut on disc 2 which is the unrated cut plus footage from a TV version, the extra footage is mainly extra dialogue plus a few minor arcs in the story but it puts the pacing of the movie way out, these scenes are better being deleted scenes. great to see they have gone to the trouble to give a longer version but stick with the unrated cut. Blu-ray picture is very good, much better than the old DVD versions. Cool steelbook cover, the back and inside are rather plain but still worth the upgrade!!

Worth resurrecting, 31 years on
Based loosely on the 1922 H. P. Lovecraft novella “Herbert West–Reanimator”, this classic mid-80s horror is both old-fashioned and new. It takes a work of period literature – about a grave-robbing doctor restarting dead human beings as if they were machines – and transplants it to a modern-day mad scientist workshop, effectively reinvigorating the zombie genre. With its unnatural lighting, crooked angles and melodramatic outbursts, Re-Animator has the style of cautionary 50s sci-fi. Except much, much gorier. Jeffrey Combs plays West, whom we meet grappling with one Dr Hans Gruber (that’s right). It turns out that West wasn’t killing Gruber; he was bringing him back to life with the help of a special serum. West flees to New England, where he moves in with Dan (Bruce Abbott), a trainee surgeon, and his girlfriend Megan (scream queen Barbara Crampton). West soon gets to work resurrecting dead animals, but his sights are set on human reanimation. Appealing to his curiosity and his ego – and despite the warnings of Megan – West convinces Dan to assist him, gaining access to the morgue. Meanwhile, the scheming Dr Hill (David Gale) seeks to steal the serum and create a zombie army of his own. The movie is based mostly in a single set, the morgue, meaning most of the sub-$1m budget goes on spectacularly gruesome special makeup effects. This release is the “Unrated” version, meaning all the beheadings and disembowellings are here in all their 4K glory. It’s safe to say Re-Animator features some of the most impressive and memorable gore effects of the decade. Tony Doublin’s design for the headless Dr Hill is masterful. The scenes where Hill’s disembodied head is psychically controlling his stumbling body are eye-poppingly gross and funny. The script is sharp, the plotting is tight, and the characters are well-rounded. Sure, the goodies aren’t nearly as fun as the plotting puppeteers. But then, this isn’t the kind of movie where you’re expecting to feel fuzzy and consoled come the final freeze-frame. More satirical than David Cronenberg’s The Fly but straighter than Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker, Re-Animator successfully finds the sweet spot between comedy and horror. This is thanks in large part to the universally good performances, chief of which is the possessed Combs, whose deranged scientist is hilarious and unique. There’s talent on the other side of the camera, too. Richard Band’s wonderful music is pure Psycho-era Bernard Herrman. And the producer is Brian Yuzna, whose directorial debut would be the fantastically grotesque Society, and who would direct the Re-Animator sequel in 1990. Bold characterisation, barking performances, timeless practical effects, efficient plotting and jet-black humour – not to mention considerable after-the-event reassessment – leaves Re-Animator a shoe-in for cult status. It even dares to ask big questions: What is medical science for? Should we seek to cheat death entirely? And then it drowns such lofty concerns in a bucket of offal.

Miskatonic University has just welcomed its newest student and resident madman, they just don't know it yet! Herbert West is completely obsessed with the thought of re-animating dead tissue, he just hasn't perfected the procedure until now. Through a series of misadventures and failures at the University, Herbert West reluctantly shares his re-animating formula with fellow medical student Dan Cain. Gradually Dan gets sucked in to helping Herbert carry out his horrific experiments on corpses and together they go beyond the point of no return. Welcome to H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator, a true cult classic in every sense of the word and truly worth owning on Blu-ray. Video quality: 4/5 Image Entertainment has given Re-Animator fans a pretty decent Blu-ray presentation as far as I'm concerned. The 1080p HD 1:78.1 Widescreen transfer is in extremely good condition considering its age. Is it perfect? The simple answer is no. There is an occasional blip here and there, some minor print speckling and several casual print splotches but nothing that detracts from the overall viewing experience. Re-Animator was an ultra-low budget film and it's probably a miracle that it was released on Blu-ray to begin with. The transfer from Image is about the best I've ever seen this film look. The level of detail presented in the actor's faces, special effects and make-up made me experience Re-Animator like I hadn't seen before. The colors in this Blu-ray release really stand out, more specifically the blood and Herbert's secret re-animating elixir. I don't remember the green formula looking as bright as it's shown here. Audio quality: 3.5/5 The film's soundtrack is presented in DTS-HD Master audio 5.1. The dialogue comes across clearly but there really isn't anything extraordinary about the soundtrack. I think the 5.1 did the job even though it sounded a little flat at times, however the films score from Richard Band sounded better than I remember. Special features: 4.5/5 - Documentary: Re-Animator Resurrectus - Audio Commentary by Director Stuart Gordon - Audio Commentary by Producer Brian Yuzna and actors Bruce Abbott, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and Robert Sampson - Interview with Director Stuart Gordon and Producer Brian Yuzna - Interview with writer Dennis Paoli - Interview with Composer Richard Band - Music discussion with Composer Richard Band - Interview with Fangoria Magazine editor Tony Timpone - Deleted and Extended Scenes - Theatrical Trailer - TV Spots The Main Cast: - Jeffrey Combs ' Herbert West - Bruce Abbott ' Dan Cain - Barbara Crampton ' Megan Halsey - Robert Sampson ' Dean Halsey - David Gale ' Dr. Carl Hill - Gerry Black ' Mace - Carolyn-Purdy Gordon ' Dr. Harrod
