Forgive my ignorance - does this count up in second to minutes?

Yes it does count up, hundredths of a second, to seconds, to minutes, to hours. It takes lap splits as laps and cummulative splits. Brilliant stopwatch for swimming officiating. Very reliable. Battery hasn't had to be replaced yet and we are years in... have bought 3 for the family now as so pleased with them.

Does the watch count up from 45 mins to 90 for football games?

Yes it can but you have to stop it and restart after half time. You would have to probably reset it to start the 2nd half.

How is it powered, kind of battery or whatever? Ta!
