Great for bagels and we've also found it good for crusty rolls
I bought this as a present for my 18 year old son for Christmas as he was always saying he wishes bagels would cut evenly so that they would cook better. He loves it, it is so easy to use, you just put the bagel in and push down. It also works with ordinary buns, we've only tried crusty ones. Including the Paul Hollywood bake your self buns which have a nobbly top and it worked a dream, I thought they would break up. The crumbs come out underneath as it's open which makes for better cleaning.. It made making the buffets over the holiday period so much quicker and my son loved using his guillotine. It's great for bagels which we eat a lot of and an additional bonus which we weren't expecting it's great for ordinary buns. It's slimline design is good as it doesn't take up much space when storing it in our cupboard.

High quality & works perfectly every time
I'd come across these bagel cutters while living in Canada years ago and yet only recently thought to look for one here in England. This model is exactly the one I'd remembered and is both solid and highly effective at cutting bagels smoothly and cleanly. There is a gap in the bottom section that allows sesame or poppy seeds to get out easily and it needs little in the way of cleaning after use. The unit has a good weight to it and is well built, with metal rivets holding together the solid plastic components. I've used mine with Sainsbury's and Costco's bagels and both fit in perfectly well - some of the Costco ones are a snug fit, but it works perfectly well with them. In summary, if you are a regular consumer of bagels - or know somebody who is - this is a very useful addition to the kitchen.

Just get one and save your time and your fingers!!
This is a great product. It really makes you question why did I never get one before. After years of death defying stunts, bagel in one hand bread knife in the other - this just makes life so quick and simple. I was a bit worried about people’s comments of the bagel ‘sticking’ but I’ve not had any issues. Even with the supermarket brown bagels which are notoriously difficult to cut in my experience, this just sliced straight through. No more risks of a&e visits, no more wonky/split/totally unusable bagels.

Works safely to produce perfectly sliced bagels every time
This is one of those devices that you buy and wonder why you haven’t bought it many years earlier. Whilst sliced bagels are available, for the freshest taste, bagels should be sliced just before they are served. It takes a sharp knife to slice a bagel and bagels have a hard slippery surface so there is an ever-present risk of hand injury, especially when preparing breakfast. When toasting bagels, it is essential to have two evenly sliced halves so that both are evenly toasted, especially as our new Dualit Architect toaster has a great bagel function. The Bagel Guillotine is perfectly designed for its job. We bought two dozen assorted bagels from our local bakery. Each fitted in the bagel holder, which ensured that the knife component was centred. I was really impressed the way its blade pierced the top of the bagel and then passed through with a minimum of force, ensuring that the bagel was not deformed in the process. The blade guard worked well to ensure that this operation was performed safely. The Bagel Guillotine looks to be robustly constructed and should last many years. It is dishwasher safe.It deserves its full 5 star rating as nobody who enjoys bagels should be without one. The one way it could be improved would be to incorporate a crumb catcher as the breadcrumbs will fall out of the bottom of the device when it is used. It should therefore be used on a cutting board, particularly when slicing bagels at the table.

Brilliant little gadget which works perfectly
I bought this for my dad as he has trouble using his left hand/wrist. He loves bagels (specifically toasted with sliced banana) but has been unable to cut them, until now! This little gadget is fabulous, just pop the bagel in and press the handle down. The blade itself must be ridiculously sharp as it hardly takes any pressure to slice through, thankfully it’s kept safe behind a plastic panel on each side so there’s no possibility of accidental injuries. My dad absolutely loves this and was so pleased to find it existed, anything that allows him to do things for himself are definitely worth it. I would also like to add that the item arrived well packaged the day after ordering. Really pleased.

Good clean slicing fun
Amazon recommend this bad boy to me and I went for it. Not disappointed. I don’t have an issue cutting bagels with a knife but I have small kids and they can struggle to do it without the bagel looking like it has been mauled by a tiger. This product is effortless and safe (unless you are determined to hurt yourself). You put the bagel in the lower slot, slide the cutting piece down the guide rails and it slices straight through with nearly no resistance. It cuts really cleanly. If you want the bagel cut evenly (so you don’t get one really fat side and a thin one) you have to make sure it is sitting in the middle of the slot before cutting. My wife thought it would be a gimmick but it actually means even my 3 year old can now cut her own bagels. Win. The only problem I have with the design is that if you want to move the unit (pick it up) it is natural to hold the handle. There is nothing connecting this section to the base though and more than once the bottom bit had clattered onto the floor when someone moves it. It’s not rocket science to pick it up by the base but it’s not a great design.

Nice but doesn't last long as there is no simple way to sharpen the blade
Easy to use and gives nice clean cuts at first, but the blade will dull over time and end up crushing the bagel. For us this happened after about 6 months. The construction has not considered the user ever needing to sharpen the blade. As evidenced by the use of Rivets to hold the assembley together, rather than a screw or bolt method.
