Will this push 6 or 8mm staples into plywood and or chipboard recovering dining chairs

Yes mate, without any problem on plywood and in chipboard. It can even do 10mm to 14mm. I bought a whole set of staple wires 6mm to 14mm and tried each one of those sizes with no problem. There is also an adjustment knob at the rear which you can vary the force of the hammer depending on the size of you staple wire used. So far I've not touched that as the default adjustment is enough to drive the 14mm staple wire. I hope this helps.

The plus sign is for more pressure on the lever so the staple, or bigger staples drive further into the wood

Would this be ok for stapling chickhen wire to a fence?

We consider it would be ok for chicken wire as long as you have the longer staples. We used ours to re-upholster a hardwood framed suite and the staples went in ok. We used 10mm staples. We were very happy with it.

does this come with any heavy duty staples?

None, so went back to Amazon and ordered some 1000 for about £3.30 good tool to have.
