Can I stack these to double height?

Yes, you could although that will be well over head height to fill into the open top. Might be sensible also to strengthen with timber - perhaps fence posts at each corner.

Question 2

Bought theee of these to accommodate grass cuttings. The gardener tells me the bins are not suitable for rotting down grass. Any comments ?

Well, the construction of them means that grass can quite easily escape initially through the slats at the front perhaps. But to rot down anything, you can't just add grass. You need a mix of 'green' and 'brown' materials so that you have soft growth but something to stop the green just wadding up anaerobically. So I'd suggest you can use these bins if you add other materials (suitably chopped up) and don't mind a bit of escaping grass?

As long as you mix the cuttings with other materials it should be fine. This bin is quite large- which is good for generating heat- but be aware that it does take up a lot of room.

What size and type screws do we need? Ours also came without them!

I seem to recall that the size is 1500x1000x600 high. The compost bin is manufactured in such a way, as to allow the unit to be assembled through a series of notches, allowing the unit to be clipped together. All of the notches are ready made and the unit clips together quite easily. I didn't receive any screws in my pack, so I provided my own, and they are necessary. The sloping slats on the front of the compost maker, however, are not screwed, as the front slats need to be removed to access the compost with a spade or garden fork.I have had my unit for three years at the allotment, and it is still as good as new, showing no signs of deterioration. I hope that the foregoing information is of some benefit to you.
