Original filter put 50% more water into the air
I have an 831000 Aircare humidifier . The original filter could put 6 gallons of water into the air daily . This filter can put at most 4 gallons a day . The generic filter is much less expensive . If you look at the photos your will see a definate difference in the construction of the filters .

Not worth the discount (Update)
I am not affiliated in any way with the Aircare manufacturer. I have not received any compensation from the manufacturer. I am an owner of an Aircare Spacesaver Evaporative Humidifier.I recently purchased the Aircare Spacesaver Evaporative Humidifier. I am very pleased with the humidifiers output and have had it running for a little over two months. At this time the filter, supplied with the humidifier, is at the end of its useful life and needs replaceing. I replaced the old Aircare 1043 filter with the EFP for RO6G Humidifier Filter Compatible for AirCare 1043 Super Wick Filters.Firstly, the EFP filter does not fit the Aircare filter cage properly. The EFP filter is slightly smaller and causes gaps in the Aircare filter cage allowing unhumidified air to escape through when the fan is operating. This lowering the amount of humidified air being supplied during operation.Secondly, the EFP filter does not appear to be as porous as the Aircare filter. I can notice the difference in the air blowing out of the humidifier when holding my hand above the outlet vent; the air does not feel as cool or moist as before when the manufacturers filter was installed.Thirdly ,due to the lesser amount of humid air flowing out of the humidifier, the humidifier runs much longer and does not put out enough humidity to reach the shutoff point set on the humidifier thermostat - in this case 40%.In summation I should have stuck with the manufacturers filter versus a generic. I saved money upfront buying the generic filter but am know spending more running my humidifier continuously and causing more wear and tear on the unit.Update: I have used one of these filters for under two weeks in my humidifier and decided to toss it. Upon removal I noticed the paper composition of the filter was starting to dissolve, leaving slimy little white globs in the filter cage. It explains why they sandwich in a perforated sheet of aluminum along with the paper layers - stiffener.Unfortunately for me I missed the return window by several days. All the more reason to this product avoid like the plague.
