I bought a three sized hold pencil sharpener that does all different sized pencils. It works well.

Q: Pencils thick or normal thin

They are chunky pencils. Thicker than normal pencils. Great for little hands.

Q: Do they need a 'special' sharpener? Will a normal one do the job? Thanks

These are wider, than standard ones. Sometime you get a sharpener with holes for both standard and wide pencils.
