This presumably splits the left and right channels into two. But can anyone confirm whether the mono L and R streams are then made into 'stereo'?

They will 100% both be in mono. There is no way to extract two separate stereo feeds from a standard 3.5mm plug - there are only 3 pins on the connector: left, right and ground. The other person who answered here is saying they both 'appear to be stereo' - that's physically not possible. Both the two socket connectors will be wired so you get audio in both ears of your headphones, but they will still be mono mixes.

Never used this with Serato. It will work with a Windows laptop as a splitter of headphone signal into two separate channels.

Does this work with an iphone 7 or x ? buying for my 13 yr old daughter to go with a pioneer ddj-200.

If your iphone/iPad has a stereo headphone jack/socket and your Daughter is using an app like 'CrossDJ' which allows you to split the output to enable you to cue music tracks then it should work fine. I bought it to use with a Samsung tablet to DJ for my son's 21st and split into headphones & amp and speakers and it worked Brilliantly - but do check the app she is using allows for split feed cue. Hope this helps.
