Review: Spolier free review - This is the first book in Rick Riordan’s The Heroes Of Olympus series. This series is the spin off series to the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series. I have not read all of the previous series, with only the first book having being read. I will be going back a reading that series once I have finished with this one. I wondered if having skipped the Percy Jackson series would effect my enjoyment of this book, with things like references or characters. But my fears were unfounded this book provides enough background information for it to stand on its own. The book focuses on three new children who just discovered their demi-god heritage and there first quest in the world. I liked the development of the three new demi-gods and they learnt about the ‘other’ world and there own powers. Each of them are unique and fun to read about. I liked the length and the pacing in this book. There is enough story to give a nice amount environment setting while not waffling and slowing the story down. The main story was interesting, which I won’t go into here so as to not spoil it for others. There is not much in this book that I can think of as disliking. In fact after sitting here for a few minutes and coming up empty for something to say I didn't like, the only thing I could think of was having to wait for the next book in the series to arrive. I really enjoyed this first book. Which kind of surprised me considering its target audience. The three main characters were interesting and diverse leading to you connecting with them. The story was well paced, with nothing that felt it was added just to increase the word count. Overall this is a very nice book. I have now placed my order for all of the other books in the series. Lets hope they live up to my expectations after having read thus one. I would rate this book a 9 out of 10. Hooray - Percy is back, sort of...
My children were so sad when we finished the last of the Percy Jackson books. When we found out that there was a new series (The Heroes of Olympus), they were over the moon. The Lost Hero starts with the news that Percy has disappeared and has been gone for some time. We are then introduced to three new characters, Piper, Jason and Leo, who we meet on a disastrous field trip where their lives are suddenly turned upside down as they find themselves attacked by wind spirits and being saved by an ageing satyr who they believed was their sports coach. The story zips along at Riordan's usual frantic pace. There is still the most fantastic mixture of mythology and modern life, which made the original series so refreshing to read, and the characterisation and plot are outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed it and are so looking forward to reading the second volume.

A bit basic but worth the read 😁
I loved the start, it was so promising but I think it kinda fell off I was V sad because no Percy and kinda js oh no Percy is missing well anabeth can go find him that’s done. The characters are nothing rlly special Jason is the classic perfect hero with Fangirls and knows nothing about his past, and he doesn’t want to be perfect but he is. Piper is just so basic she’s pretty but doesn’t want to be so brave and doesn’t care about looks but she has no other personality unlike Annabeth who’s cool smart and a different personality Leo is the best he has a new personality is funny and interesting but gets overlooked and ignored mostly, the plots okay but imo nothing special but it’s not very bad so I think the og Percy Jackson are sooooo much better but it’s not that bad, I think if ur a pjo fan it’s worth it. Hope u enjoy it 😁

Interesting combination of Greek and Roman mythology
The Lost Hero is the first instalment of Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, and follows Jason Grace, Piper McLean, and Leo Valdez as they become friends, are taken to Camp Half-Blood, discover who they are, and go on a quest to save Hera, Goddess of Marriage. At the start of the book, Jason has lost his memory, and by the end, some of his memories start to come back and he realises why those memories were taken. My favourite character is Leo. I recommend this book because it’s really interesting how it combines Greek and Roman mythology. I need to finish this series so I can get Percy back! ‘Maybe people with special gifts show up when bad things are happening because that’s when they’re needed most.’

Over the last year, I have aquainted myself on Rick Riordan's Greek Mythology books of demigods and their adventures. The first five books were amazing and with his recent release, The Lost Hero, is a continuity of the Percy Jackson books. In other words, this is the beginning of another book series; but with three new characters and plot twists. Without giving anything away, Ill give you a little bit to help you understand the book. A teenage boy name Jason wakes up on a bus, not remembering who he is or who his friends are. Piper, his friend and "possible" girlfriend and his other friend, Leo. They all go to the Wilderness School for troubled teens. On a field trip, weird things begin to happen and they end up at Camp-Half Blood where hidden truths are revealed to them; starting an adventure they will never forget. Why is Jason's memory blank? What is so significant about his two friends and what do their hidden truths have to do with their quest? How bout that for a teaser haha. I have to say that I finished this book last night and was amazed from beginning to end, I even figured out the culprit behind it before reaching the end, but I'll leave that to you to discover hehe. Yes, this book is meant for teenagers; but Im not afraid to admit that I'm 24 and read these books. I have been a fan of greek mythology ever since high school, always been fascinated with the stories. The way that Rick Riordan made these century old myths modern is in my opinion, very fascinating. When certain parts are reached and a discovery of greek mythology character is revealed, he also gives a background that explains the character but to a extent where the parents do not have to take the book away from them. Think of it this way: the myths are censored, but still stay true to the age old myths. Plus the three newbies get to ride a dragon made of bronze as the cover of book distinctly shows. A few characters from the original series are in the book but do not join the quest, as they have their own quests to deal with. The battles in the book are written with great detail and gives your imagination a workout. I would say these books are for any age range, especially Greek Mythology lovers. The one flaw of the book: when you get to the end of the book, it leaves you wanting more. Writing books is a delicate process and the way Rick wrote the previous books and this latest one, it takes time and planning. With taking Greek Myths and making them modern, take the time you need. The next book, The Son of Neptune (nudge nudge wink wink), comes out Fall 2011. If you are looking for something interesting to read or you are trying to get your kids read while secretly teaching them, then this book and previous books are your best bet of enjoyment. It is Harry Potter, but with Greek Myths and magic. (no wands)

The Great Stirring calling greater monsters and old figures of mythology with a touch of humour and madness... A few demigods, a kidnapped god, a lost hero (surprise, surprise), a prophecy and a quest to undertake... Yep. Rick Riordan strikes again with few changes to his unique bestseller reciepe. A few novelties however : Lupa and the roman gods are brilliant ideas, and this time from the point of view of 3 completely new characters. This allows you to see some of the old characters under a different light, a new point of view. I think Jason is scared and Annabeth, and Leo doesn't stand a chance with Thalia:-). A pity we don't meet Percy just yet and there's no fun in guessing the protagonist's parents, its just too easy.

My granddaughter loves these books. She’s in grade 6 and she spends hours reading which is great in my opinion as it’s less time looking at Minecraft.
