In a way, yes. The material is thicker than a balloon but the advantage is that it hooks over the tap so that the tap end is submerged in the descaler that is contained in the balloon (or bulb). You can just leave it to work. It worked well on our taps. I guess you could try to make something similar with a small balloon but I suspect it would sag too much. Try it with water first before you add the descaler!!

Is there a size suitable for a shower head available

Hello, unfortunately we only do the size Limey that is advertised and it will not stretch to cover a shower head.

Will this thing fit all sizes of tap hole, or only some?

Doesn't work with any of the taps in my house - all varieties. Liquid leaks out before it reaches 'the problem'.
