Accurate & Reliable
this is the second one of these i have bought , first one was few years ago and i loved the pen back then also, i didnt know they still made them and when i found it i bought it, it comes pre calibrated but that only lasts for around a month and if yours has been sitting on a shelf for some time in a shop or in storage then chances are it will need re calibrated, very easy and accurate to calibrate, everything provided in the box including batteries, great piece of kit and very reliable.

A solid choice for kombucha brewers
I bought this pH meter to monitor my kombucha brewing. So far I've found it very handy and can't really fault it for home use. Readings tend to stabilize after about 4 seconds, which is pretty good. Calibration out of the box was off by about 0.15, but the included buffer packets lets you take care of that, which is nice. One thing to note is that the calibration is linear, meaning you basically just set an offset for the reading the meter gives. You cant adjust the scale if it gets off over time, so the meter will be less accurate as you get further from the pH of the calibrant. However, this shouldn't be an issue for non-scientific applications. tl;dr: A great choice for home-brewers, cheesemakers, and more. Calibrate it on first use.

Easybto use and great value for money, glad I bought this

Absolutely useless
Bought this on the strength of the positive reviews, but it's absolute rubbish. pH readings jumped around all over the place and it was impossible to calibrate as it would error-out before I could even submerge the probe in buffer solution! Returned for refund.

So far so good!
Given the marmite-like quality of the reviews on this product, I thought I would wade in with my experience so far. I have a few tanks and recently really got into trying to understand water chemistry and testing. I wanted a "second opinion" on my liquid pH kits so bought this pen. It seems to confirm, though with great granularity, ease and accuracy, the results of my liquid kits, which I find quite hard to read (I always imagine that I can see the pH colour going in the wrong direction!). I tend to buffer my own RO water and this pen is accurately reading the results of the buffering – for example, I use Lake Tanganyika buffer to raise the pH to 9. I tested with the liquid kit, which read 8.5-9.5ish, whereas the pen was reading 8.9-9.1, as I would have expected. To ensure more accurate alkaline readings, I purchased a 9.18 buffer for calibration – it was only off by a little when it arrived; it was bang on the neutral buffer though! I will continue to use this product and would recommend to others. However, I would say having multiple options to read pH would not be a bad idea, just in case. Originally, I was going to spend £100 on a Hanna pH pen – which has reviews that are also somewhat mixed – and all the buffer, cleaning chemicals and storage solutions that it requires, but thought I'd first take a chance on this pen – for now, this seems to have paid off.

Calibrated; really???
Seems to be a decent budget pH meter which I bought to check my mash pH for all grain brewing. However, the claim that it's pre calibrated is nonsense, mine was nowhere near, reading pH 8.5 in tap water! Using the included buffer solutions and following the calibration instructions soon had it reading correctly. Just glad I checked it before it's first use though! Other than this it works well, I can't comment on longevity, but at this price, if I can get 12 months use from it, I'll be quite happy.

Excellent..
Arrived on time. Come calibrated and with additional congestion l calibration packets. Bit plasticy but decent build. After the first use it finds the pH fast. Very precise. Can't fault it

PH Meter
I ordered this to test the water for my home brewing. It arrived quickly and was well packaged in a hard case. The case will be good to store the instrument and keeping it safe from knocks. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I was surprised to have not one but two of each of the sachets of calibration powder. I calibrated the instrument and it was accurate as delivered. And I have spare sachets in case I need to re-calibrate when the batteries need changing. The instrument is really easy to use and the read out is very clear. This is now part of my home brewing kit and I have used it to improve the quality of my brewing. I would recommend this to anyone and one of my friends has already bought one to use in his home brewing set up.

Just bought and used today, so I will update later if any problems develop. The unit comes in a plastic storage box with a translated set of instructions that, while obviously translated, are easy to follow. Initially I tested some distilled water I had and got a PH reading of 5.85, so I calibrated it using 6.86 buffer solution (Buffer powder included 2 x 6.86 PH and 2 x 4.01 PH) and it was very close. I was easily able to adjust to 6.86 with the included screwdriver. The Distilled water still read 5.85 and my RO water tested at 6.8. A quick internet search and I learned distilled water is initially 7.0, as I thought it should be, but quickly absorbs CO2 and is typically around 5.8. So the meter was actually dead on right out of the box. The meter is easy to use and appears accurate. The only concern I have is when it is time to change batteries. I tried to pull the battery compartment out, as shown in the instructions, and could not easily do it. I needed to use the unit today so I chose not to try to pull the compartment out for fear of breaking it. Also the manual says the batteries are 3x1.5 v (AG- 13 button battery), but I don't know what those are or where I will find replacements. I will update on that later when I have to change batteries. For $20, I don't really expect perfection, but so far this unit has exceeded my expectations. I am using it to test my kombucha as the PH strips that I was using were terribly inaccurate and hard to differentiate the colour changes (I have perfect colour vision as I have been tested). So far I am happy with this product.
