A great addition to DE shaving.
I bought this after EJ sent me a sample. It's a nice addition to shaving with a DE safety razor, makes the razor glide over whiskers better, for me particularly on my neck. Combined with a good shaving cream it makes shaving an enjoyable experience.

Smoothest Shave Ever With a Gillette Fusion Razor
I am pretty impressed with this pre shave cream. Normally I will never a get that smooth feel on the skin even after a two pass shave, I wouls still feel a little roughness and that 5 O’Clock shadow look. I have Avery dense beard. But I added this to my routine. All you need is a pea sized amount on the skin and then apply your usual shaving gel, foam or cream on top, and I got a very smooth, comfortable shave even using a here week old Gillette fusion razor. Well reccomeneded.

It is a good Pre Shave Lotion
It is a reasonably good Pre Shave. Nevertheless I personally think that Proraso Pre Shave Cream has the edge.

Irritation for me.
I normally use DE razor, good quality cream whipped with a natural brush and a block of alum afterwards to avoid irritation. Styptic matches for occasional cuts. I was swayed by a free sample - it numbs the skin and gives a cooling menthol sensation when you are shaving. I bought a tub and started using but noticed I started getting irritation that could not be controlled by block of alum. When I stopped using it I stopped getting irritation. I think skin numbing effect means you are a lot more aggressive with the razor. I would not recommend it for a similar set up as mine but it may be good for other set ups or for people who do not easily get irritation.

Not up to the usual specification
I have been using this for pre wet shave in conjunction with EJ shaving cream quite happily for a number of years. This last order was far from up to the expected standards. The cream was very watery and came out of the tube far too quickly so a lot was wasted, also the menthol was very strong that made my face sore. I know this item is currently unavailable but if this is the quality now being dispatched I will be looking for an alternative anyway.

Another quality product
Bought this after getting a sample with a triple pack of soap from Edwin Jagger. I was already happy with the shaving soap but using the pre shave before has made it even better. Super smooth shave ever time and will be using it all the time from now on.

Wonderful Pre-Shave
This is my second time getting this. After using a couple other pre-shaves, trying to figure out what works best for me, I've come back to the Edwin Jagger. It is a bit pricier than some of the others however, I seemed to not get as many nicks, if any at all, when I used this. I also really liked the scent and the feeling of it on my face. It may not be for everyone but I would give it a try, I'm glad I did.

SHAVE STARTER HAS THE MAGIC!
This product does an incredible balancing act-and does it better than anything I've found. I have profound concerns with pre-shave oils - the risk being oil absorbed by your expensive badger hair brushes. The very quality of your "wet shave" depends on the characteristic ability of your brush to absorb hot water! Badger hair and human hair have a unique ability to absorb water. Hot water softens your beard hair and mixes with shave soaps to produce that splendid lather - this process cannot help but be impeded if the brush absorbs oil! I don't think wet shaving fans can be too careful about this! This 'lotion' softens the beard, provides a base just slick enough to help the razors gliiide, but not so slick that the lather slides away, and it prevent nicks, and leaves my skin soooo nice afterwards! Finally, just a touch of refreshing menthol...HEAVENLY... !

You Will Actually Look Forward To Shaving !!!
Love, Love, Love this stuff. I have a really sensitive face, and when I started using this product, after I had treated myself to a really expensive barber shave in a spa, I fell in love with it. It preps your face, for a smooth shave, and I have REALLY sensitive skin. I use this with Baxter after shave lotion, and Jack Black shave cream, with an old school safety razor, your face will love you. Jack Black also makes a great after shave gel, I find the Art of Shaving just too expensive. Try this stuff, it is also not cheap, but you will love it.

Evaluating unscented preshave products. Comes in second.
Good. Just not as good as Castle Forbes Unscented Pre-shave, which in my own opinion, is the premier preshave lotion. Edwin Jager uses some menthol, which I could take or leave. The Edwin Jagger appears to be “whipped”, while the Castle Forbes can be best described as creamy, softer, more hydrating and requires less product for coverage. These products are better than preshave oil as they are absorbed (and soften hair) rather than just lie on the surface of the skin and provide blade lubrication, albeit And acceptable preshave solution as well. I will admit to not having tried other unscented preshave lotions. These two were just known brands that already had the highest ratings. If you order these products during the summer months, or in a hot climate, do not let them sit in a hot mailbox all day they will explode. I lost nearly half of the Edwin Jager product, let the seller know – and asked me what I wanted to do. I was too lazy to respond, while the seller did nothing. Not that it matters a lot and is a minor detail.

This stuff is the best.
Very good for pre-shave moisturizing and whisker softening. It’s right up there with Proraso pre-shave. it doesn’t have any fragrance added (kind of smells like oatmeal) so it won’t conflict with any aftershave you are planning on using.
