Spritzed a couple of sprays onto the rug. Lord Aragorn was immediately interested. He couldn't stop sniffing the area and eventually ended up rolling himself gently around it. Valerian smells faintly of musty old socks so don't be concerned that something is wrong...The smell is worth it to see your beloved companions in such bliss. Now he comes running at the sound of ANY pump spray....Definitely relaxing for cats and as an aromatherapist I can tell you that it works on humans as well...It's just not an oil that aromatherapists like to use because of the odd odour. I could never find a different oil that would mask the smell. Great product but a little pricey TBH.

I got a kitten to keep my adult cat company after his sister was killed in a car accident. He was very unimpressed at the intruder in his home and whilst he wasn’t aggressive with her, he was constantly growling and hissing for the first week. I bought a plug in feliway diffuser for the living room, but I bought this spray to spray in the hall way and around the doorway into the spare room where the kitten sleeps. It’s been so, so helpful. Within 24 hours of using this spray, the adult cat let her sleep on the same bed as him, and let her come and bump noses with him without hissing at her. A few days after that and they were cuddled on the sofa together. It’s still early days and he’s definitely giving off an “annoyed older brother” vibe but it’s a much happier house! I would say two caveats: 1) As other reviews state, it is quite an unpleasant smell. I would liken it to insect repellant but less chemically. But, the smell only really lingers for an hour after spraying and I find spraying every couple of days helps. It’s certainly not a bad enough odour to make me not want to use it, considering how helpful it’s been. 2) Make sure you follow the instructions and spray the area but keep your cat away from it for 15 mins. I didn’t on one occasion and my cat went crazy, rolling around in it, clawing at the carpet… and because he was over excited it had the opposite effect and he was quite hissy with the kitten when she came to investigate. So let the spray settle before letting the cat near it.

I have feliway diffusers and this spray. My cat definitely has a preference for beaphar and reacts to it fast. If I spray some in the air, he will roll around on where the mist lands. It calms him. It is not a cure all and during fireworks he will still hide, but it is a comfort. My only warning is that the scent is somewhat 'fruity' ...very musky. Not ideal to use just before guests walk into your lounge. Otherwise it is brilliant. Am never without it.

It did work for my cats, they definitely were calmer when I sprayed it. It does have a pretty strong smell but it does fade within an hour or so. I sprayed on white painted walls and it has stained slightly so just be aware you may need to clean the walls.

If you ever buy a product that relaxes cats Beaphar is the one. One spray lasts a week.

I like the idea of this item but the reality is this item smells absolutely rancid. I saw other reviews mentioning it didn't smell nice and I thought "ahhhh maybe they are over reacting and just overly sensitive". However no... Its like an unpleasant bacterial smell (like something died and decomposed or worse) and whatever you spray it on will hold it that smell... Plus its like spraying water, so whatever then touches what you spray it on gets that smell/it spreads. On receipt I sprayed it into the cap to have a sniff and thought OMG thats horrible, yet stupidly I still sprayed it on my cats bed - I assumed the smell would fade/the calming effect would remain. Safe to say the smell remained, my cat wasn't bothered one way or another with the smell and I had to immediately wash the bed and binned the spray. I would never purchase this item again, cat had no reaction and the smell being the primary reason. You just can't spray this stuff in the house and I wouldn't even spray it outside on something in case the smell transferred onto the cat and the smell just doesn't go away.

Unpleasant smell

Este spray funciona super bien para mis dos gatos. Les tranquiliza bastante. Lo he comprado porque nos ibamos a mudar y habia comprado un nuevo arbol de gato y tenia miedo a que me empiezan a rascar las puertas o dormir en el sofa. He puesto (demasido pero bueno) spray en el arbol nuevo y en seguida han ido a dormir alli. Lo unico es que si, apesta!!!!! no se tiene que dar mas de 2 o 3 puff porque si no vomitas. EL olor es horrible. Cuando lo uso abro la ventana. El olor no se queda mucho tiempo pero no es un olor a flor vamos... Recomiendo el producto para los gatos que tienen tendencia a estar estreseados
