AC 220V 4000W High Power SCR Electronic Voltage Regulator Governor Dimmer Thermostat Speed Controller

Quality of basic product is very good, it worked perfectly after I repaired the case. The metal case around the electronic pcb and components is very thin metal. This case was bent and in contact with the electronic components therefore unsafe to use. The manufacturer needs to pack item in a strong cardboard case, and/or Amazon needs to deliver the item in a strong cardboard box instead of the thin cardboard sleeve they now seem to use.

Took a bit of figuring out, but in the end I wired it to a new "variable socket" so I didn't need to cut the cord on the grinder. NB with the grinder running at half speed it's a 300W machine instead of the normal 600W but it works and I am getting a lot less tool burn.

Hope this is really rated for 4Kw Case needsto be earthed I added a nut andbolt to use when i finally use this item. Also the internal 10 amp fuse is a glass one be better with a ceramic one?

Changing the potentiometer/ dial didn't change the voltage. It puts out the max voltage no matter where it's positioned... Returned for refund.

Did not come with a terminal cover as shown on the picture. No reading at all on the multimeter on the first three dial numbers, then comes in on the fourth. But delivered on time and does work.

The dimmer worked well to reduce the voltage, i was surprised it was silent in operation as most dimmers make a noise when its dialed down. i have to point out the case does need an Earth connection for safety and/or an additional ventilated box housing. The rotary scale seems good for what i was testing it on. Half Way seemed like Half Power. Usually Half the Voltage usually means Quarter the Power but it seemed more linear.

I got this to regulate the power of my immersion heater in the hot water tank. I have solar panels and on sunny days I regularly have a spare 800 -1200W being exported at no benefit to me which I wanted to use to heat my hot water. By using this regulator, I can reduce the consumption of the immersion so I can turn it on to utilise this free energy. My next task is to build a solar activated switch to turn it on automatically. Maybe by next summer!
