I bought this tie for my child's costume. All Gryffindor products seem to have complaints about the authenticity of the colors. The tie strikes me as a shiny burgundy, but I can understand people seeing purple. I resolved the issue by waiting until we received the tie, then bought robe fabric to match. It's a quality adult tie (not a clip-on), but as long as your child's robe is closed, no one will notice the length. It doesn't have the Gryffindor crest on it, which is good, because no one has ever seen the crest on ties shown in the movies or described in the books. An added bonus is that you can borrow your child's tie to wear and have it look special to people who recognize it and normal to everyone else because there isn't a huge crest dangling on the end.

I was somewhat worried about how this tie would look because there were so many complaints about the color being so purple, but it's honestly fine. It is somewhat purple, but that's maroon for ya. Not to mention, actually wearing it with a costume, I don't think anyone would ever even notice if the color were slightly off. But I got a gryffindor scarf and it matches very well, I'm not disappointed. The tie is actually a pretty good quality tie too. It isn't clip on and it's not actually short to be like child length or anything. Plus, it shipped so fast. I swear it was in transit right after I ordered and got here way earlier than promised.

This tie is an excellent addition to the Harry Potter robe. It is an actual tie, so it makes a fun and educational time trying to teach a 9 year old how to tie a Windsor knot. I think his dad is enjoying this experience. The colors match the robe we bought perfectly. I would have thought they were a bit too purplish as some reviewers have said; however, they look great together and I don't detect the purplish look when the ensemble is together.

The tie that came wasn't identical to what I received, but still a great product. It really is just a red and gold tie. The picture shows it to be more burgundy, which it is not. The picture also makes it look like it would be the length for a 6 year old, which it is also not. I am an adult and wore it for Halloween and it fit just like any other adult tie! Great product for the price even if it isn't the same as the picture.

Ordered five of these for day out to watch Deathly Hallows part 2 Imax NYC. They were just the job. I was hesitant about the negative reviews on colour, it seems many people have different opinions on what is burgandy,purple,reds etc...), but the more expensive deluxe version (available too at Warner Bros $24.95 + S&H) has similar mixed reviews. These I reckon are same colour, with deluxe you get the school badge at the bottom. We watch HP movies a lot and I cannot recall ties having badge at bottom, so these cheaper may be more accurate too. The reviews are so mixed and confusing I even briefly considered getting Slytherin ties. Bottom line, we got noticed plenty (no costumes,just ties over white shirts), lots of smiling faces for us Gryffindors and people starting conversations about Harry Potter. It seemed pretty obvious to New Yorkers we met what these ties represented, so I wouldn't let the negative reviews sway you, especially on the colour, as the deluxe version is same, so unless you really want the badge for around $10.00 extra, these are great for looking like you go to school at Hogwarts.

Looks great, My son went as Harry Potter, but we did not get the robe and people were still able to recognize him. But when we put it on for the second time, the little piece of fabric that holds the back of the tie in place came off. I thought no biggie, Harry usually looks disheveled any way so ho cares if his tie is messy, but by the end of the night the tie was coming apart. We are going to try to glue it back together and see what happens. If you are getting this with the plans of only wearing it once or twice, go for it, but if your kid likes to play dress-up a lot (and mine does) you won't get much life out of it.

Perfect accessory to finish off the costume. Glad I purchased it. Yes, it is not a pure burgundy, but the costume robe I purchased at Amazon also had a more purple undertone to the hood's lining, so I didn't find it a big deal. My child wore it to school and out trick-or-treating, and the tie stayed perfect.

Our 6 year old son wanted to dress up as Harry Potter for Halloween this year. He has the cloak, the wand, the glasses (purchased on Amazon as well) and now the tie. When paired with khaki pants, a dress shirt and the lightning scar- he REALLY looks like HP! The tie is somewhat purple as others reviewers have stated, but definitely looks like a Gryffindor tie. It is good quality, though I'm not sure why it isn't a clip on. Not educational in any way, but loads of fun for any HP fan!
