I have natural slate so lots of little bumps.** A: Depends on how big the bumps are. Very little ones should be ok I would think, but larger ones wouldn't. It rolls wonderfully on my flat tiled floor but won't roll onto the carpeted area, over the carpet edging. The base sits only about half a centimetre off the ground. I hope this helps. **Q: Are you supposed to step straight onto the top or use the middle as a step first? It looks as if it would topple over if you used the middle.** A: You can step on both, as soon as enough weight is applied to the stool it locks on the ground and won't move. Depends on how long your legs are to make the step up, it's bigger than it seems once put together. **Q: how high is this loaded and unloaded?** A: Hi, its around 17" tall unloaded - When you stand on it this reduces to around 16.5" in height **Q: How do I separate the halves?** A: I believe they are not meant to be separated. Once the top is pushed onto the base, the 3 lugs click into non-return metal catches on the underside. It would be necessary to radically bend these catches to remove the top, and this would likely break them. However, this does add to the safety of the stool - it is VERY sturdy and keeps one very safe when using it.
