Took seconds to install (needs SATA motherboard connection)
Not quite sure what value "retail" pack has to simple drive pack as the software says it is trial and it is a very old edition of the software. (CD doesn't even define how limited the software is and suggests it is different between products it is bundled with). I didn't install it as my pc already has a paid for package I like. While the drive boasts it is quiet, I think it probably is to cheaper models of the past but the 14 year old Lightscribe HP (Toshiba-Samsung) unit it replaced was even more quiet both at burning spinning & initial boot up "I am here, got any bootable stuff" spin. This is not a game changer, it is quiet enough and the one spin at boot up is only a momentary noise. It works well, costs very little, pity ODD devices are falling out of fashion now they are so good & cheap. (This is not Lightscribe, that is a dead technology anyway, but it is M-disc compatible according to the box)

Awesomeness in a small box
I love Liteon drives and have done since god was a lad. I've never had any problems with them ever. I've used them with all the major software and and I currently use it with Imgburn; a super program with a small system footprint, easy to use with great tutorials on their forum, Imgburn will pretty much burn any type of disc and best of all its free. I also sometimes use CDburnerXP another good program, and DVDShrink, a god-like program if ever there was one. Ok, on to Nero... it saddens me to see a once great program fat and bloated. if you ever get the Nero Suite it will install upwards of 21 programs :-0. I got Nero Essentials; a cut down version of the Nero Suite, but for most people Nero Essentials is more than adequate. I installed it to check out the TagLabel feature that; I found out later, can only be used on DVD Discs. TagLabel is a bit like Lightscribe only it doesn't need a special disc like the Lightscribe does, it can only do this in monotone not colours. Personally I find both of these features a waste of time and nothing more than a novelty, you will soon get bored of waiting for the image to be burned to the disc. So, unless you are an amazingly patient person don't bother with lightscribe or TagLabels, get a descent printer that can print full colour to a printable disc and get funky with designs. The liteon is both quiet and fast, I run an i7 system and treasure a noiseless PC; well as little noise as is possible. I have invested in the best silent running products and my PC is very quiet, I had made a poor choice recently in a Sony DRU-875s, these are very noisy drives so the addition of the Liteon product was a good choice and I bought it for its abilities to burn quickly without errors and run quietly etc. Since using Liteons I have only ever had one coaster and that was my fault. Grade A product. PS... this is a genuine Liteon not a rebadged Optaric or other brand.

CD/DVD Replacement
I purchased the Liteon IHAS324-32 to replace the drive in my DELL inspiron 530. This original drive had given problems almost from Day 1, it would write DVD's but always had problems with CD's. It was easier to buy a new drive rather than deal with DELL and have to parcel up the PC and return it. Fitting the new drive was simplicity itself. Remove two screws to open the case, then remove two screws that held in the old drive. Disconnect the two connectors and pull out the old drive. Replacing the new drive was just a reversal of this procedure. Less than a quarter of an hour later and the new drive was up and running. It worked perfectly and is so much faster than the old drive. I used the standard (free) delivery but the drive was with me in just a couple of days so I would not go to the expense of special delivery unless it was really urgent. All in all a first class purchase. Liteon IHAS324-32 24x Internal DVDRW Black Retail SATA Edit (25 Nov 2013) has been in regular use now for over 3 years and it has never given the slightest problem. The computer is getting a bit 'old hat' but is still reliable.

Good product
Love the product as it matched my case colour perfectly. My only dislike is I ordered a kit as opposed to just a drive and received the drive and mounting screws but no leads. I understand this as not all users use same leads but I still expected them to be there all the same. Otherwise it’s working well

Anybody can install it.
Not knowing too much about computers, I decided to try and fix my DVD writer problems by installing a new one myself. I should have found out a little more about the connections as I didn't realise there are several types. Since then, I found out that my computer although only 5 years old, has an IDE connection whereas the Liteon IHAS324 is a SATA. No problem though. With the addition of a small kit costing about a fiver, I found I could easily install it although I did need one more cable that wasn't included in the kit. It was another supply cable which cost £1. All in all, a stylish and quiet writer which I can thoroughly recommend.

Good Old LiteOn.
Works great. As A fan of CD/DVDs, I am glad that in the era of online subscriptions, streaming, and USB sticks, it is still possible to buy a normal CD drive. It is actually harder to find a computer case that will accept one, despite it being an essential component of every PC in my opinion.

It's not a kit!
To me the description "kit" means that all the parts needed to install the drive are included. This is a retail boxed item which includes only the drive, four mounting screws and a software package; there are no data or power cables, so these need to be added. This should be made clear in the webpage description as it adds cost and delay, unless you already have spare ones to hand. The drive itself seems fine so far, but the product should be described fully, hence only 3 stars.
