I cant comment on effectiveness for longer beards as I cut mine to 4 or 5 mm and works great. Think the comments that guard breaks when cleaning must be done by heavy handed people or those that haven't read instructions. Just rotate the wheel to max length and gently wiggle it and comes off easily. Put back the same. Nice pop up trimmer. With it set to 3mm I have also cut my hair with it and works fine. I have only taken 1 star off probably should be half a star as recharge is long. 14 to 16 hours but in reality for me it isn't an issue. Shave once a week then plug it in overnight. Not a deal breaker.
