You can't check temperature by first 2-3 cm of thermometer.This is my observation. **Q: Can this probe be used to ascertain the correct milk termperature when making yoghurt?** A: All I can say is that the markings on the dial range from -10 C to 100C or 0 F to 220F. So it will register any temp in this range. This is primarily a milk thermometer for texturing the milk for microfoam. For this reason the required temp is marked on the dial in red ie 65 F to 70 F as it is crucial not to exceed 70F for microfoam. I must inform that the immersible stem or probe of this therm is 10cm (full length with clip is 14cm). Just enough for the milk pan or small milk jug. I hope this helps. **Q: can this be used for cheese making** A: I'm not entirely sure? If you require a temperature gauge for cheese making then I can't see it being a problem.....But if not id check that with the company selling the product.....Hope this helps! The red line indicator helps to ensure that I do not over heat the milk and spoil my coffee. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accurate high quality *by R***L on 25 February 2025* The thermometer is quite accurate as you can see in the picture (excuse my poor milk frothing skills). It’s a very good size and fits many milk jugs. I would say the top is quite big and wide so it’s difficult for me to see how my milk frothing is going. The clip was also quite loose. I have to try bend it to get it tighter, but I still haven’t got it to replace where it’s good. You have to stop milk frothing a couple moments before your desired temperature as the thermometer reads slow slowly however that’s just the nature of these thermometers.
