Great Vegan/Vegetarian Jerky!
I really am happy I tried this, the price is very reasonable compared to anything local (if you can even find it) or compared to buying smaller packs and some of the other brands. I haven't been able to find any vegan jerky locally at the coop anymore so I'll admit that it's been a while since I tried any other brand for direct comparison. This is better than I remembered the others being though.I'd recommend this for a first purchase to try the brand even if you think one of them sounds better than the others. You actually get a split of 6 flavors. Hickory Smoked must be new or something because at the time of this review, it's not shown in the product picture. Some flavors are probably going to appeal to you more than others and it's nice to give them a go before committing. In my case I like all of them though so I'll probably just keep getting the sampler pack to mix it up.Hot and Spicy is a little bit drier and more solid. The other five have more similar textures, they are a bit softer and stringier. The texture is good. You won't fool anyone who eats meat jerky but in my case I've been vegetarian for too long to really compare. This is a little oily on the outside, keep in mind that compared to regular jerky, it's slightly messier and you will need to rinse your hands afterward if you hold the thing directly without eating it out of the package. Not a complaint but just pointing this out if you're going to munch on these while sitting in your cubicle or something.I would put Mesquite Lime and Thai Peanut as my favorites but your mileage will vary. In my case, I like those ones since they seemed to have the "strongest" flavor and I'm not trying to critique whether it tastes like meat or not, just enjoying it for what it is.

Nice flavor sample
I've wanted to try vegan jerky for a while but was scared away by the price. I'm glad I gave this pack a try and wish it was included in the monthly subscription service. My favorite is the Teriyaki. For flavor and texure, teriyaki hit all points. The mesquite lime is also good but it could be more 'limey' but still a really good flavor. Thai peanut tasted too sweet and needed more savory. Hot and spicy wasn't hot or spicy although it had a subtle tingle that lasted a while (I tried this flavor then gave it to my boss to sample). Hickory and Texas BBQ were both good with nice spice.Texture wise seitan is better than the soy, and soy is better than the mushroom.Flavor wise, soy is better than seitan, and seitan is better than mushroom.Seitan is extremely meat like. I let my coworkers sample it and even after telling them it was wheat they still thought it was meat. Soy texture is like pulled meat that's been pressed and congealed into shape and is harder to chew. Soy has a really good flavor, but doesn't match with the 'jerky' experience the way the seitan did. I felt the mushroom was over processed, and instead of having chewable chunks it was more like a paste that was pressed into a bar for eating. That one was a miss and I'll probably give the other mushroom bar away instead of trying it again.Best - Teriyaki (Seitan)2nd - Hickory (Soy)3rd - Texas BBQ (Soy)4th - Mesquite Lime (Seitan)5th - Thai peanut (Seitan)6th - Hot and Spicy (Mushroom)

Honest Review of the Primal Spirit Vegan Jerky - Sampler Pack
Iโve tried three of the six flavors from the sampler pack so far. Theyโre okay, but most of them taste pretty similarโeven though the protein sources vary (mushroom, soy, and wheat gluten). For me, theyโre too sweet. Iโd prefer less sugar and more bold, savory flavor or spice. If youโre expecting a dry, traditional-style jerky, this isnโt it. These are moist, sticky, and sweetโbut definitely chewy. Theyโll work fine as a quick snack on the go, but since I donโt have much of a sweet tooth, Iโll probably reach for something more savory most of the time. Not these candy bars.

Tastes Great
This tastes great; easy to take on hikes, the go, etc

No likey
Most of the flavors are ... tolerable. The texture is worse than rubber. The issue I had was I couldn't chew it fast enough and the flavor hidden by the spice starts to show through. Long story short, I tried each flavor and spit out each flavor. I'm not a very picky person, I have no idea how people find this edible.

Strangest option of the 4 I've tried
I have tried 4 types of vegan jerky. Here are my opinions:Louisville Vegan Jerky - 7/10 - Interesting flavors, some better, some worse, none bad. Softer than actual jerky. Overall pretty good. Soy based. Might buy these again.Primal Spirit Vegan Jerky - 4/10 - Bizarre flavors, some decent, some odd, some absolutely awful, and many do not taste like what they're labeled as. Very odd consistency, stringy yet also very tough, not at all like actual jerky. Wet / "basted" in the packet, soaked in liquid flavoring, sometimes drips out when opened. Hard to compare to actual jerky, more like it's own food type. Overall ... strange. Soy, gluten, mushroom based. Would never buy again.Noble Jerky - 8/10 - Good flavors, actually tasty. Decent consistency, sort of like very soft jerky. Similar to Louisville brand overall. Soy based. Have bought again. Best of the bunch.Beyond Meat - 6/10 - Closest consistency to actual jerky, chewy compared to the others. Flavors are charitably - bland, and uncharitably - not great. While the Primal Spirit brand has the *consistency* of shoe leather and flavors of nothing I've ever tasted before, the Beyond Meat brand has the consistency of actual jerky but at times the *flavor* of shoe leather. I'm betting the pea protein used in these does not help here. NOT soy based. Mung bean and pea protein based. Would not buy again.

Their flavors are all super delicious, especially the hot & spicy one
So, I ordered and compared Louisville Vegan Jerky, Unisoy Vegan Jerky Snacks, and Primal Strips Meatless Vegan Jerky. I thought it might be helpful to post the comparison on all three of my reviews, since vegan jerky is NOT cheap so I did a lot of research before buyingโฆand really didnโt find many helpful side-by-side comparisons online. Therefore:1 โ Primal Strips Meatless Vegan Jerky. These were my favorites! Their flavors are all super delicious, especially the hot & spicy one. The best part of this jerky is the texture, though. I will warn you โ itโs wet and kind of messy. But itโs the closest to actual jerky, in my opinion. Each little pack is 70 calories, which is also nice, because theyโre individually wrapped and you know exactly what youโre getting.2 โ Louisville Vegan Jerky. Second favorite. These flavors are actually even better than Primal Strips, in my opinion โ very strong and peppery. But the texture is very soft and foamy โ it kind of what Iโd imagine eating a packing peanut would be like. They also smell a bit like dog food. That said, Iโd still buy these again for variety from Primal Strips because the sharpness of flavor overrides the texture issues. There are three servings in a re-sealable pack.3 โ Unisoy Vegan Jerky Snacks. These are straight up terrible. They are SO HARD that I had to gnaw on them just to get a single bite off. Theyโre dry and basically devoid of flavorโฆIโm mad that the order come with 3 bags (of 3 servings each) because I feel like I should finish them since I bought them. But I donโt want to! So disappointing.

Tasty, convenient, great snack source of protein
I love these, they're all pretty tasty. I am seriously obsessed with the Thai Peanut and the Mesquite Lime flavors and when I ordered a bag of these I admit I kept checking amazon for the delivery notice so I could go home and eat some. My least favorite is the Hot & Spicy mushroom jerky, which has a flavor and texture a little different from the other 5 kinds (which are soy or Seitan based), but I have never been much of a mushroom person so if you are then you'd probably enjoy them more. I have been very pleased with all the other flavors and they are really worth the price - I paid a little over thirty dollars for 24 strips of jerky and while that is a little pricey, it is more cost effective than the 12 pack. These are a great, convenient grab-on-the-go snack. They are low calorie (as in less than a hundred calories per individual package) and have 10g of protein! The package is relatively small and thin, like a regular piece of jerky would be, so they're super easy to fit in a purse or backpack in case you get hungry when you're out.My only caution for potential buyers is that many of the Primal Strips have a pretty strong flavor, so if you aren't into that, you might not find yourself liking these. I, however, am delighted with them and I'm so glad that the demand for vegetarian/vegan food has created such a delicious line of meatless jerky. 5 stars.

Good texture!
These ones are each made with differing ingredients. Make sure to keep your eye on whether it's wheat gluten, soy, or shiitake when you're deciding which ones you like best, because each has a different texture. The shiitake is softer, with less of a grain to it, but had a very nice flavour. There's not that much difference between the wheat and soy ones, though the soy was a little harder/chewier. Both the wheat and the soy split off into thin chewy ropes like one expects from jerky, and the flavours aren't too overpowering. They were all very good.I'm glad this came in a variety pack!

Nice alternative to real jerky
I purchased these the first time last summer for a snack food to keep on hand in my lunch box for those days when I felt like having a special treat. I just recently made my second purchase of these. I enjoyed all the flavours except the mesquite lime. I couldn't even finish eating it (but we all have different tastes so someone else may like it). All the other flavours were great, even the BBQ one (which I'm not usually a fan of BBQ flavoured foods). I only wish they weren't so expensive since I'd buy them more frequently. At the current price I simply make these a special little treat to enjoy. They don't quite give off the same real jerky texture but they have their own unique texture and I find it satisfying which is great for non meat eating diets.

A good meat-free substitute for jerky, though not all flavours are great.
These make a nice meat-free substitute for jerky, the macronutrients are reasonable, but one or two of the flavours were a little funky. It does its job as a sampler pack though, you can figure out which ones you like.

Wonderful texture and flavor
These are fabulous. I stopped eating meat a few years ago for ethical reasons, but frequently miss the chew/mouth feel/texture of real meat. I still double check the package from time to time to make sure it's not actual meat. Flavors are excellent. The price is high, but this is something I get as a treat, so for me it is worth the money.

Used to be great, latest batch sucks
This used to be a great product, but the latest batch I just bought is completely inedible. It's rock hard, like trying to eat tough leather. It's impossible to chew. This is in stark contrast to how it was a couple of years ago, when it was firm, but had enough moisture to be chewy and edible.
