## Description

From the manufacturer Lawn Repair Perlite can repair damaged lawns by providing additional ventilation and drainage when raked into spike holes. Root Development Perlite loosens and ventilates soils to promote root development. Simply mix with potting soil and it will keep the soil loose and light. Improve dry or sandy soils Vermiculite has excellent water retention properties that make it perfect for repairing sandy soils or dried soil. Usage volumes Use 1 part vermiculite to 10 parts of compost (we recommend a 2-litre bucket as a measure) plus selected fertiliser mixture. Strong root growth Perlite as a grow medium strengthens root growth and also acts as a terrific insulator to protect plants from temperature changes. Better nutrient absorption Using vermiculite as growing medium will also enable the plant to more easily absorb the ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium necessary for vigorous growth.

Review: Excellent Value - When it comes to gardening then with perlite it depends on how much you use whether this is good value or even a good buy. I use a lot of both perlite and vermiculite, mixing it with compost and for cuttings - both can be used on their own as a medium to root cuttings. The two inert mineral products have many of the same characteristics but also different strengths. Perlite is better at aerating soil, for example, while vermiculite holds more moisture, soaking up water like a sponge. Both tend to be sold in garden centres in 10 litre bags at £8 to £10 a time these days, so 100 litres for the £21.25 I paid was a bargain. Be warned though, 100 litres is a big bag so you do need room to store it. If you use perlite then it is an economical way to buy and means you can afford to be more generous with its use. If you don't use perlite and don't really know much about it, then it is something well worth investigating.
Review: Amazingly useful - got through a whole sack in 1 summer, ordered another - We have two things in our garden that benefit from this stuff, heavy clay soil and lots of stuff raised from seed / grown in pots I have found that pot grown things particularly benefits from mixing this in the compost. Best bean harvest for years, incredible success with foxgloves and other from seed etc. Use approx 1/4 perlite to 3/4 compost Once the pots have done their job, either raising seedlings or growing veg I empty the compost / perlite mixture in to the borders. It looks a bit odd for a while before the perlite mixes in Had to buy another bag, as autumn arrives we are repotting some of the big perennial pots and want to get this in the mix to help the roots to breathe Great product that is way cheaper bought in bulk

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What grade / size is it? I am looking for medium which is about 1-5mm diameter.**
A: This perlite is standard perlite 2-5mm - hope this helps

**Q: Measurements of 10 l (not 100l) perlite bag-also, is the bag re-sealable?**
A: Not re-sealable, but doesn't need to be, as long as it's kept in a dry place.

**Q: help please..can i grow vegetables in this?**
A: Perlite is inert, meaning it contains no nutrients like soil and compost. Perlite is used to mix into ground soil or compost to improve aeration to the roots of fruit and vegetables and also aid the drainage of heavy soils (like clay for example). This perlite can also be used as a growing medium for automated hydroponic growing, in which the perlite takes the place of soil and the essential nutrients the plants need is pumped from a mixing tank. Hydropnics is used for growing leafy greens and fruit, not root vegetables.

**Q: What is the coverage for top dressing a lawn**
A: Alison, Perlite is a material you mix In with grow bags or garden soil. If you put it on a lawn it would blow away. Its to aerate soil that is clay, or just heavy. You could spike your lawn using a garden fork and brush in the perlite. Its a difficult question as there are many variables. Technically its not a top dressing, topdressing is a soil mixture. Hope .this helps
