Realize your Ford Coyote engineโs full potential by using this detailed resource as a guide to select the right parts for the street or the strip. Veteran Ford writer and historian Jim Smart highlights all of the latest and greatest options to achieve more horsepower and torque, and of course, faster quarter-mile times in Ford Coyote Engines: How to Build Max Performance-Revised Edition . In this Revised Edition, now covering Generation III engines as well as Generation I & II , upgrades included are engine building techniques, cold-air induction kits, supercharger and pulley kits, better exhaust headers, fuel system and ECU tuning upgrades, and more. Both Ford and the aftermarket have produced an array of parts to squeeze even more power out of your Coyote. Ford introduced its first โclean slate designโ V-8 engines in the early 1990s in Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models. Known as the "Modular" engine family, the 4.6L engines employed new overhead cams, multi-valve performance, distributorless ignition, and more. This engine had new technology for its time, and it proved to be an extremely durable workhorse that logged hundreds of thousands of miles in police and taxi applications as well as light-duty trucks. And, of course, hotter versions, and even supercharged versions, found their way into performance applications such as Mustang GTs and Cobras. By 2011, Ford wanted something hotter and more current, especially for its flagship Mustang GT and GT350 models, which were suddenly competing with new 6.2L LS3 engines in Camaros and 6.4L Hemi engines in Challengers. Enter Ford's new 5.0L โCoyoteโ engine with Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT); it was an evolution of the earlier 4.6L and 5.4L Modular designs. Although the new Coyote engine had increased displacement, it still had far fewer cubes than the competition. Despite less displacement, the Coyote could hold its own against bigger Chevy and Chrysler mills thanks to advanced technology, such as 4V heads with better port and valvetrain geometry. The Coyote is also Ford's first foray into technology that includes Ti-VCT and cam-torque-actuated (CTA) function, which is a fancy way of saying variable cam timing for an incredible power curve over a broader RPM range. Now, in Generation III, Ford has implement a system using both Port and Direct Fuel Injection, taking advantage of the benefits of both systems in a single application. Even with all of this new technology, there is always room for improvement. If you are looking for even more power from your new Coyote, look no further than this volume. Review: Photographic instruction manual to tuning Ford Coyote engines. Excellent editorial quality. - I have to admit it. I'm a bit of an engine snob. I like small turbocharged engines from Europe and super high-revving, exotic V8s. The Ford Coyote engines, including the 5.2L Voodoo and the 5.2L Aluminator, are quite sophisticated, and are the topic of this book. If you're tuning these engines, this is the best book you're going to find. Photos are excellent, all in color. There aren't many diagrams or other types of illustrations. It's mostly photos of the engines and engine components. The book is broken down into chapters by system. There are some framing chapters that summarize the engine history and specifications. Really, this is an instruction manual for how to tune for power. Being a mechanical engineer, I'm very uptight about specifications and their accuracy. For example, the 5.2L Voodoo engine was instantly famous in the American automotive community for having a very high redline of 8,250 rpm. This is a feat of engineering in itself. The author stating that, "It spins to 8,250 rpm but shuts off at 8,000 rpm" is not accurate. Absolute fuel cutoff happens at the 8,250 rpm with the PCM pulling timing at 8,000 to allow 250 rpm of headroom. I know. This is nitpicking, but technical books like this, particularly concerning high-profile specifications like this, need to get it right. Also, I would have like to see some OEM power and. torque curves for these engines. The author is an absolute expert here, and it shows. I would have no reservations about using this book for your engine swaps, rebuilds and modifications. He speaks with authority. Review: Good manual - A very knowledgeable book for the coyote engine.

Decent reference book
Bought to have a reference for Coyote engines, should I have one to maintain. There are reviews of content in other places, consider all before purchase. Written by Jim Smart, so expect quality prose, good photos and illustrations, detailed text, and most likely technical errors.

Not the most informative
I purchased the book hoping for more of a service manual, but itโs not. Itโs more of a look through the years of the 5.0. There is good information in it, but not as much as I was hoping for.

Ford 5.0 Coyote Upgrade Reference Book
Excellent reference book for Ford 5.0 Coyote engines. NOT A REPAIR MANUAL, but tells you a great deal about the Coyote engine family including mods and recommended upgrade parts. Highly recommend it for general knowledge. Contains 160 pages in 12 chapters. MAKE SURE YOU ORDER THE BOOK THAT COVERS GEN 3 ENGINES TO GET THE LATEST INFORMATION.

Excellent book
As someone considering a coyote swap into an older project car, this book was very useful. It's packed with Information, and organized in a logical way and I feel I absolutely got my moneys worth with the information it provides.

Not exactly as I thought it would be
Well, the title was a bit deceiving as this book more identifies as a magazine. Each topic is then broken down to the three gens so expect a lot of flipping and potential confusion. It reminds me of something more for the waiting room than the shop. Oh, and the focus is the mustang, you know the F-150 has the Coyote tooโฆ There is a few places that do provide quality information for assembly but very little. Over all this is something I would expect a teenager would appreciate.
