Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, STIPA04, Titan 4 Inch Partoku Knife , Black

I am one of those home chef types that is satisfied with most of his tools, but this knife makes me grin ear to ear. It is lightweight, feels somewhat heavy in the handle but has been a workhorse prepping everything (it is used every day). Out of the "hanging package" it is very sharp (as anything claiming to be a knife should be), the soft grip handle is great (though the packaging cord left a permanent dimple in the handle) for wetwork. It will look a little discolored until you wash it before use (don't freak out!). Staying sharp (yes it is), looking sharp (great design, should help those lacking in the "skills" dept.). Awesome value and a excellent step up to quality cutlery for most home users.

4/27/13 I mentioned the crack in the knife caddy and that I would contact Schmidt Brothers directly. I did and got a request from one person for photographs of the problem. I took the requested photos and attached them to an email to him. It was returned by the "Postmaster". I resent the email with the same result. I contacted Schmidt Brother again on their website and got a response back from another person. She seemed puzzled that the emails were getting returned and request I send directly to her. I did as requested and again the email was not delivered. I will still say that the knives are awesome, but it you want any customer service you can forget it! I did send another not on the Schmidt Brothers website expressing my irritation and it has not even been answered. I suspect Amazon should boot them as a vendor! Product is 5* (except for the knife caddy). Customer Service is 0*. *********************************** I love to cook. It just makes me feel good and I smile a lot when I am in the kitchen, but there was one thing that made it less pleasurable...I had good knives but trying to keep a half-way decent sharpness on them was a nightmare. I have wanted professional quality knives for a long time, but the price was prohibitive. These knives are very reasonably priced and perform exactly as I had hoped. My son was over a few days after I got them and was in awe at the way they sliced through a tomato like it was warm butter. The only complaint I have is that the rather cleverly designed knife caddy has a crack in the wood that after only a few weeks has already gotten worse (I NEVER put knives away with any moisture on them. Just not a good practice). I will take that up with Schmidt Brothers directly. I'm sure they will take care of it right away. I'll update if they don't. Bottom line - I would highly recommend any amateur chef (or professional for that matter) buy these knives.

If you're looking for a beautiful decoration for your kitchen counter top...look no further. If you're looking for an exceptional set of affordable knives...maybe shop around a little longer Just received these knives. They came very quick. Washed them up, ran out and grabbed an orange from the tree to see how silky smooth these bad boys would slide through it. NOPE. Every knife in the set was dull. And I mean I couldn't cut myself if I wanted to dull. Luckily it comes with a sharpener (one of the reasons I bought this set). The sharpener is nice. I've spent the last hour trying to get an edge on these blades. For the most part, I've got them to equal quality of knives I've bought from Target that are somewhat cheap. However the boning knife is useless. The initial angle beveled for the blade seems too wide for the sharpener V, so its not actually making contact with the tip and getting the knife sharp. I haven't tried the steak knives, tomato knife, or bread knife yet. I hope they work as it's impossible to sharpen the already serrated edges Lastly, the wood magnetic block is gorgeous...but it's much lighter than the picture shown in Amazon, which is disappointed as the lighter wood wasn't the look I was going for Really disappointed in these knives after all the great reviews I've read about Schmidt Bros.

It seems like everyone who has ordered this product has the same experience, loves the knives but for some reason or another the knife block never comes in fully working order. Very disappointing especially in this price range. I've tried to contact customer service, if I get a response I will update and change this rating as the knifes themselves are beautiful. It would seem stupid to send the whole block back if I can get 2 screws mailed to me. I cant wait to see how this is handled. Update from a month later, it took a little time and much effort on my side but I got more than my 2 new screws, 2 new plexiglass covers as well. These knives are insane quality for the price. Customer service is in major need of improvement but its a new company... My suggestion is buy the knives.
