Elvis Presley sings 14 songs and still manages to drive sightseers around the islands in golf carts in this lush musical. Back home in Hawaii after being discharged from the Army, Chad Gates (Presley) is pressured to work with his father in the fruit business. Instead, Chad takes a much more enjoyable gig as a tour guide with his girlfriend's agency. Angela Lansbury, Joan Blackman, Roland Winters also star. Features the title tune, "Can't Help Falling in Love," "Rock-a-Hula Baby," and more. 101 minutes. Review: Very good Blue Hawaii DVD. Transferred well and improved sound to Stereo which is great. Elvis sounds great. - The Blue Hawaii DVD starring Elvis Presley was good movie. For a movie back then, it was enjoyable and fun. The color is great in this movie. The full theatrical 2:35:1 Panavision frame is presented in a very nice anamorphic transfer. The print is fabulous for a picture of this age. There are occasional blemishes of a speck or two on the screen. Once in a while the picture to the left and the right isn't as clear as the center, but it was still very good overall. Digitally it was very good with no squares or compression issues with the transfer to DVD. It's great to see that the film preserves the background, landscape, scenery and colors well over time. The sound has been re-mastered for Dolby Digital 5.1. The 5.1 mix sounds pretty good with vocals from Elvis in the center channel and the instruments coming up on the satellites. The rear channels don't really get used at all, it's mostly the front 3 speakers and the sub. It is a very crisp, clean, deep stereo Elvis you get. The original mono is also included which sounds terrible when compared to the 5.1 sounds. The film is an old movie, and it is hard to compare to movies of today. But for back then, it was a big deal Elvis in a movie. I recommend this DVD. It was transferred very well. Picture and sound is good enough or very good, and it was an enjoyable movie pretty much. It is nice that it is in stereo rather than mono like on the LaserDisc version. Review: Good flick - Good movie to add to my library

Great Elvis Movie
I have watched this movie several times. The island of Hawaii is beautiful and the music is as well. Elvis, of course, sings and the love story is funny and loving at the same time. The wedding song is by far the most beautiful. You won't go wrong buying this movie and enjoying Elvis in his younger years and the Hawaiian Islands. Gorgeous.

DVD copy direct from the original film. It has the scratches and imperfections that make it great. Another Elvis film for my collection.

elvis! hawaii!
i'm sentimentally fond of this film, though of course it's a very silly movie, and dreadfully full of all the misogyny, casual racism, and cliche of its era. elvis is a terrible actor, and isn't really attractive in swim trunks. the story line is ridiculous, contrived to include musical set-pieces, and runs way too long. HOWEVER... it's great fun. elvis sings and dances infectiously--he was still young and full of life here. his mother, an alcoholic, manipulative, racist, classist, aged southern belle, is played by angela lansbury. the movie was filmed in beautiful hawaii settings, which are fun to compare to their look today. and the whole thing is a camp classic that belongs in every collection.

The old Elvis movies and always fun to watch. Do not expect some complex plot. Enjoy the time capsule.
