When NAS is idle it should put the HDD in Sleep Mode and the power consumption during that time is 20.943W.

Can you install 4 mechanical drives and an M.2 as a buffer?

I have the 2-Bay version of this model - not sure what you mean by "buffer", but the supported strategy is to use the M.2 in pairs as a caching strategy. There is a specific configuration and monitoring for read/write caching.

Can you upgrade the ram?

The TS-453E is equipped with 8GB of RAM that is not expandable, meaning it cannot be increased in capacity.

Does the apple time machine functionality work again? it stopped working due to software limitations.
