You just rotate the head and it has about 20+ setting for topspin, backspin, sidespin, and many in between combinations. The horizontal oscillation feature is nice. It's not really random but it hits all parts of the table The only minors things that I din't like were the mount to attach it to the table was fine but the part that actually attaches to the table was pretty small which would put a significant stress on the edge of the table. It wasn't really a problem though since I just put it on a small movable cabinet that was exactly the height of the table. The screw that you turn to lock the vertical angle isn't super precise but it is secure enough. The spins are not as strong a you would expect from a really good player but it does put a significant spin on the ball. Overall, this is a great robot. I've never used a robot before so I have nothing to compare to but the simplicity of this robot really impresses me and it has been very reliable. They then contacted me again a few days later to make sure it would not be sent back to China. I ended up picking up the item immediately once I realized I had missed the delivery. Set up was easy, and using the machine is really fun. You can generate top spin, backspin, as well as any combination of those and sidespin. I purchased an expensive net to catch the balls, which really helps. There is an in xpensive ping pong plastic tube that is on the market that helps speed up hopping the balls. My only criticism, which is a minor one in the modern digital age, is that English instructions would be nice. Nevertheless, after a very brief search I was able to find explanations of how to operate the machine. Google translate was not quite as helpful as I had expected.
