This is perfect for your home office. It's the size of a med-large briefcase. I like the emergency access key, if needed. Reviewers are confused with the word "safe" and comment that it's not heavy enough. The safe part is to protect it through a fire and water from putting the house fire out. It's not a gun safe! It locks with a keypad, and you cannot change the code once it's established. Then there's a key to get you in if you forget the code, but if you do it's useless. That what password apps are for. I hope we don't need it, but we like the briefcase, as we like being able to carry it with us when we take an extended trip, in case the papers are needed. The price seems reasonable for the build quality. No one paid me for this review.

This is a well made unit. Having a key lock and a digital lock makes it handy. There is enough room for many documents. It should hold up well in a fire. Well worth the price.

Original title: Overall it's not a bad product, but has some flaws that I think could be easily corrected. The box itself is quite solid. I would be more comfortable with a thicker cable and a mechanism for clamping the cable to the box that felt more secure. The biggest problem is with the flimsy plastic handle, which pops out frequently. The first time it happened I was making a run from the car to the building in the rain. The handle popped out, and the box crashed to the pavement. The box itself just took a minor dent on the corner where it landed. Luckily I had securely packed the two laptops inside the box, so they were undamaged. I now tuck the box under my arm rather than trust the handle, which is somewhat awkward at times. Update: After about 6 months, the lock simply refuses to stay locked. Replaced all batteries twice, but still can open simply by turning the knob, no combination required. Not worth the headache of trying to get it fixed under warranty. It's now just a fairly useless metal box.

Pros: -Fits 8 1/2 x 11 pages just fine, even if in a folder or envelope. You can fit a huge stack! Like around 4", no problem. -Lightweight -Price for value -I like having the keys, just in case -Love that it has a handle Not so pros: -It says double wall construction, but the lid is an exclusion -Thought I read it was "waterproof" but there is no seal around the lid. You could add a seal to keep moisture out, but unless it's something that is fire rated it would just melt under heat. -Battery compartment cover is cheap. If it falls off (battery compartment is under lid so gravity works on it when lid is shut) then you'll need the emergency keys. -Only five digits on keypad so you'll have to create a code that likely isn't something easy to remember. This will force some folks into using a pattern, which is less secure. -Definitely easy to break into, but I only want to make it discouraging or time consuming before it is compromised. If you're serious about securing your valuables it might be better to use this box as a cheap decoy that you make visible in the house, then put your actual valuables under your mattress or in your sock drawer. :)
