Island Guy is 100% right. "Tag the wires" isn't a real wiring instruction. I naively matched the existing switches only to wind up manually tracing paths between junction boxes to get the right wiring when it didn't work. Label the input and output lines or just don't give any instructions at all and let people test the continuity in different switch positions themselves (which would yield better information than what is supplied).

The switch seems to work as expected once correctly installed. But the installation was made unnecessarily difficult by the horrible wiring diagram and written installation instructions.A reasonable person attempting to interpret the wiring diagram above would assume that the two travelers from the first 3-way switch in the series should be attached to the two terminal screws on the left side of the 4-way switch and that the two travelers departing the 4-way switch for the last 3-way switch should be attached to the two terminal screws on the right side of the 4-way switch. Wrong! After hours of frustration and only by using a multi-meter was I able to figure out that only one of the wires from the arriving pair should be attached to the upper-left side of the 4-way switch. The other wire in that pair should be attached to the screw on the lower right side of the switch. Likewise the the departing pair is split between the remaining terminal screws on the lower- left and upper-right side of the 4-way switch.The written instructions that came with the switch were no better. Rather than describing each wire by its origin, destination and/or function, the instructions say only to "tag wire(s) on different colored screw(s) before removal" of the existing switch (without regard for whether there was such a switch, or whether is was wired correctly).

I got this to go along with a couple of Lutron Diva dimmer switches. This looks great and works fine, but it wasn't as easy to install as the more expensive Lutron Diva C.L Dimmer Switch for Dimmable LED. You have to bend the wire around the screws and then somehow it's even harder to mount this one in the electrical box. As I said, however, it works fine once you're done.

I first bought the Levitron switches saving myself like $2 per switch.20% of them were bad. So I switched to Lutron and omg it's night and day.They fit flush against the cover, the Levitron looks crooked no matter how I try to align them.The Lutron just fits perfectly and has a much more solid "click" feel and the weighting of the switch makes them feel more quality when you use them. The Levitron feel cheap. I feel like I could replace all of them with the Lutron now.

Wiring diagram was not exact a lot of houses are wired different so it took several trial and errors to get it right

I agree with Island Guy - needless wiring effort due to ambiguous diagram.

Do to the vast assortment of colours available from Lutron and variety of light switches and plugs Lutron is a must to consider in your decorating needs. With the new painting being done in various rooms and the light switches and electrical outlets add to the decor.My only disappointment remains with the fact that the various coloured light switches do not come with night light within the switches. It appears you can only get them in white. Poor marekting on Lutron's part in my humble opinion.Rick Lane, Kitchener,Ontario,Canada
