Best fountain I've used so far
I have tried water fountains before a few years ago, and I found them to be more trouble than they were worth with all the cleaning involved. I decided to give this one a try to encourage our 2 cats to drink more water. I picked this one, because it was ceramic, dish washer safe, and would still function as a water bowl if the power goes out. Noise - It makes no noise whatsoever. It does not even make a trickle sound. Easy to Clean - I clean the fountain once a week. It takes only a few minutes to disassemble, wash all the pump pieces, and rinse the filters. Then I stick the rest into the dishwasher. I don't wash by hand because the ceramic is very heavy and slippery, and I know that dropping it while washing is very likely. So every weekend, I do an extra load in the dishwasher to wash this along with any other food mats, or other items I can throw in. I think it's also better this way, because the dishwasher will do a better job at sanitizing the ceramic parts. Assembly - It took a few minutes to read the instructions and figure out the first time, but after a couple times from cleaning and reassembling, it feels quick and easy now. Filters - I imagine this depends a lot on the quality of your water. I live in an area with EXTREMELY hard water. I use a Zerowater filter for our drinking water, and I use that to fill up the fountain. So the water is already filtered starting out, and the water fountain filters are used mainly to help keep the water clean for a week until I clean the fountain again. I stupidly forgot to order replacement filters in time to replace after 2 weeks, so we are now on week 4 and the filter seems to be doing fine. In the future, I will probably be replacing the filter after 3 weeks, to be safe. I have not noticed any slime, smells, or anything out of the ordinary as some users have mentioned. If you use unfiltered water to fill the fountain, I would imagine you would need to replace the filters much more often so that may be when the sliminess starts to happen. Drinking more water? I noticed that it does seem to catch their attention, and I feel like I witness them drinking more often than they did with regular bowls. I left their old water bowl out, on the first week for transitioning, and I noticed that they preferred the fountain over the bowl, so that was enough to convince me to keep it. Tips - If you have an anxious pet, that gets nervous from new things, leave their old water bowl next to the fountain when transitioning, and leave the pump UNPLUGGED. At least until you see the pet drink from the unplugged fountain. After they're comfortable drinking from the fountain, try turning the pump on, and leave the old water bowl out still, just in case. When you see the pet drink from the fountain while the pump is on, then you can take away the old water bowl.

Probably way too expensive, but cats love it, DEAD SILENT, easier to clean, filters are cheap.
I used another Drinkwell model for years; bought it the same day we adopted our older cat. It got harder and harder to keep clean, needing bleach spray and scrubbing to keep the film of bacterial goo off the plastic, and was always a little noisy, even with proper deep-cleaning of the motor every month or two. The noise eventually got unbearable, being the loudest thing in the house, so we splurged on a replacement. I considered a few other, cheaper models, but realized that with noise being such a huge factor, many would not work for our house. Most cat fountains seem to employ splashing water as a feature, using longer drops either directly into the water or onto a flat surface to attract cats. My previous, plastic model used a short waterfall onto a ramp, that was nearly-silent (aside from the pump noise) if you tuned the pump's output correctly. This strange, ceramic orb is even quieter. No pump noise, no water noise, it's dead silent, unless the pre-filter is clogged with hair. Would probably get loud if you let the water run low for too long, because these motors require water to keep cool, which brings me to my only functional con: This thing has lower capacity than my previous fountain. My two cats, once they got over the transition (which took about one full day), drink out of this thing constantly, seemingly more than the old model. It holds less water to begin with, which means I need to top it off every other day or so, when the old one would run about 4-5 days without needing a refill. I really don't mind this, but it may be a concern if you have 2 or more cats and planned to leave the house for more than 3 days; you'd probably return to a burnt out motor and thirsty cats. The other con I have, is the price. Why does this cost so much? I can buy similar ceramic wares for less than $15, the motor retails for about $15... I could justify it being $40-50, but $80 is a little ridiculous. Still paid it, though, because I wanted the continued convenience of a brand where I can buy the filters everywhere for cheap (12-pack for $12, 6 prefilters for about the same, I change those every other month), or replace the motor if I needed. The ceramic surface and shape is much easier to clean, the only parts you have to be careful about is the dome, the plastic filter housing, and regularly disassembling the motor for cleaning, which is not as hard as it sounds; a butterknife and some tweezers (or gentle use of pliers), and maybe a cotton swab, is all you need, every couple of months. Compared to the previous plastic model with all its ridiculous nooks and crannies, this one's a dream.

This is perfect!
This is the best water fountain I've tried. I went to the shelter and saw a big tuxedo cat that was so friendly. I noticed that his kennel area was wet but I just figured he tipped it over due to his size and being kind of bumbly. I was wrong. He liked tipping over bowls of water. I tried many different solutions and found that he prefers moving water. I tried many fountains and he still pushed them all around before drinking. This one is the only one he cant tip over! It's heavy and lays low to the ground. The ceramic is easy to clean and the motor is soooooooo quiet! I almost forget it's in the house. I got a rubber mat to put under it because he still manages to push it around a little bit but, I'm no longer worried he will make a mess. I will buy again! I love it and the cat loves it too!

Quiet and reliable
I’ve had this fountain four years and I love it. It looks nice and it’s very quiet. It’s fairly easy to clean. The ceramic parts are dishwasher safe. One of my cats is a messy drinker so I had to put the fountain on a silicone mat to catch the splashes but I imagine that would be the case with any fountain.

Good Fountain
We wanted something that wasn't plastic. This fountain is very nice looking and it's completely silent. Seems to work well; cats and dogs had no problem transitioning from the previous fountain to this one. The dogs don't seem to be able to drink without coming away with a wet ear as they drink from the basin with their head next to the gray ball. (I have weird dogs.) The cats seem to miss falling water, but still use this. And the parrot will walk across the house to drink from this rather than his water bottle and he enjoys bathing in it every once in awhile. As a multi pet household, I kinda feel this fountain is a little small. We refill it daily. As others have mentioned, it definitely gets dirty kinda fast. A concern we have is that the flow seems somewhat minor, so there is nothing ensuring that all of the water in this fountain is being pushed through the filter. Cleaning is easy. I've been paranoid about dropping the gray ball but haven't yet. The few plastic pieces around the filter cartridge come apart easily and clean up quick with a small brush. I replace filters monthly, but it should probably be more frequent with 2 long-haired cats. Overall, a good fountain and we're happy with it. But if I broke a part of it during cleaning, I'd probably shop for a different ceramic fountain rather than replacing this one.

Keeps my cats hydrated
I got this fountain for my two cats and have had it for about two months now. I chose this fountain due to the low noise. It does not splash water and my cats love to drink from it. They prefer to lean over and lap up the water from the area where it comes out on top of the ball. Cats have poor vision up close and they really like that they don't need to guess where the water level is. Be aware that you will need to clean it about once a week, but this pretty standard for all pet fountains as they tend to get clogged up and bacteria will grow on the surfaces. Speaking of surfaces, it does have plastic parts under the ball if you are worried about that. Again, all fountains will have some plastic parts. If your water is very hard you may want to use distilled water as hard water will leave crusty deposits on the ball and sides. I've had several pet fountains and this one is very easy to clean compared to the previous ones. I use dishwashing soap and a soft bottle brush. The ceramic parts are smooth and do not trap debris. Just be careful not to drop the ball or base in the sink as they are ceramic and will shatter. There is a foam filter that fits around the pump and a charcoal filter that goes in a plastic case that sits on top. Both are readily available both from PetSafe and aftermarket at a much cheaper cost. I have not had to replace the foam filter yet, but the charcoal filter lasts about a month. You'll know when it needs replacing as the flow will slow drastically.

Pet Unsafe
I want to start off by saying that I take the health of my cats very seriously. I deep clean their water fountains every 6-7 days and wash every piece thoroughly. I've bounced from fountain to fountain because I wasn't comfortable with certain elements (algae, debris, materials) before I settled on this. The filter element looked strong and gave me confidence that the water would flow nicely and keep out junk. I figured it would make a nice addition alongside my other ceramic fountain, purchased from a small specialty company. A few days after setting this up, I noticed there was a dead bug and quite a bit of debris in the water. I've been through a lot of fountains, and not once have I seen a bug. Whatever, it's the summer and things happen I thought. Next week, no bugs but a bit more debris. I changed both filters and figured it was another fluke. Today I brought it to the sink for cleaning, and saw a dead bug and a TON of debris, like a disgusting amount. There's absolutely no way this water has been safe to drink. This is with pre-filtered water by the way, and in an area that is relatively clean. The other fountain doesn't have this issue at all. I think this stems from two major faults. First, the pump just isn't that strong. The water flows out of the (plastic, lol) spout and onto the ceramic. It doesn't actually spurt out like the photos led me to believe. So there's a very thin later of water that coats the ceramic bulb which the cats drink from. Because this process is so weak, it causes the tub to host what is essentially standing water once the water level is about 3/4 full. Second, the filters are junk. The semi circular sponge was falling apart by the second cleaning (week 2) - the instructions say to replace after a month or so. There's also a chemical smell coming from it, which didn't come out after vigorously rinsing with water. Not a great taste for the cats, I imagine. I'm disappointed, because the company literally has "safe" in the name. The products looked great and led me to believe this was no different. Unfortunately I'm returning this. Maybe it's a pump issue, but it's possibly just a design flaw. Sucks that I spent $100 on this.

Very Impressive Fountain!
I was originally looking to purchase the Pagoda or Avalon model of fountain from PetSafe but after reading reviews that complained about the loud noise created by the falling water in those fountains I decided to get the Seascape instead. I am not disappointed at all in this purchase. I have owned the Original and Platinum fountains in the past and while they were decent products they were a headache to clean and maintain and they didn't exactly complement a homes décor. Amazon delivered the fountain quickly and it was very easy to clean and get setup. The Seascape is very easy to clean when compared to the other two models of fountains I previously owned. I ran water through the charcoal filter before installing it to avoid charcoal dust at the bottom of the fountain and so far I have not seen any trace of charcoal dust in the water. The fountain is extremely quiet and you have to be very close to it to even hear it. It is much quieter than either of the two fountains I have previously owned and I suspect it is also quieter than the other ceramic fountains also sold by PetSafe. All of our cats took to it quickly and use it often. I only have two gripes with the fountain and they are both minor and would not keep me from buying another Seascape fountain. While the fountain looks great, I wish it came with more color choices. I also wish there was some place to store/hide the extra length of power cord since it is so long.
