Long but wonderful
I've already read a lot about the part of the world she visited. She paid a lot of attention to the people and customs. Fascinating read.

Fantastic
I have read all Erika Fatland's book (at least so I guess). All of them are special as they take you to the places right from your reading place. Waiting for the next one.

A worthwhile travel log Read by a talented writer
I would describe this book as a personal travel log tome. This author traveled through Asia into places most would never go, by herself, aided only with occasional local guides. She viewed and wonderfully described her travels and taught the reader much about the geography, areas, and people we have never been exposed to and never will. It is a good but tedious read. I confess to “paging through” the final 150 pages of this 550-page book.

After reading many praises I read three of her books and found them all a bit of a waste of time. Somewhat naive and inexperienced approach to traveling, more like an influencer type than a serious author. The pattern is the same for all the books I've read of her. She heavily quotes other authors and recounts what they have said. There isn't much original thought or experience. She often approaches people with a lack of respect and sensitivity for their situation and instead seems to be more interested in exploiting their story to create her own.I think it's mentioned somewhere that she pays money to the people getting interviewed. What do you expect...of course they will say whatever they think she wants to hear to please her, hoping for more support....that's usually how it works... The few moments when she really talks about her own traveling experience it sounds rather naive and juvenile. Her style is spending a lot of money to get what she thinks she needs to write a book. Her analysis of the people she meets is shallow and not very perceptive and I think she doesn't understand that sometimes these people might have their own agenda when dealing with her and not everything they say is a total reliable fact ( see above). Also there are some great inaccuracies in her description of places. For instance she talks about being in a particular place than taking a bus and arriving the next day in another particular place. I have been to a lot of these places and to go from that particular place A to next place B even under the best of circumstances will normally take a few days and cannot be done so quick. Some readers might not care about such things but I find if something like that is deliberately being misrepresented than what else might not be accurate. If you already have read the more famous books about these places you don't need to waste your time with this one. Her writing is not very good and instead seems rather boring over long sections. I expect a more mature presentation of your own travel adventures to make a book about faraway places more engaging and interesting, not just rattering of collected facts and ideas from previous writers and travelers....

Highly recommend this book, especially to those keen on travel, a beautiful insight into a fascinating region. Couldn’t put it down.

Fascinating, informative and interesting. But, of course, it is drawn on one personal journey and obviously elective in that. Many interesting insights into local lives and perspectives though not the normal tourist route by any means. Not a complete guide in itself but needs to be read with others to provide sound background.
