GL-AXT1800

We bought the GL.iNet Slate AX (AXT1800) for my blind grandmother so she could still use her Amazon Alexa while staying at a Hilton hotel, which only offers Wi-Fi that requires a sign-in page. This little router worked beautifully. It handled the hotel’s captive portal with ease, and once connected, every device — including her Alexa — worked exactly like it would at home. We’ve also used it to connect our Nanit Baby Monitor, which is notoriously picky about hotel or guest Wi-Fi. The Slate AX had no problem getting it online, keeping the video feed stable and secure all night. Setup was surprisingly simple, performance was fast and reliable, and the connection stayed solid through multiple devices. It’s compact, well-built, and powerful enough for way more than just travel. If you’re tired of fighting with hotel Wi-Fi or need to connect smart devices like Alexa or baby monitors while away from home, this router is a must-have. Absolutely worth every penny.

This is a highly useful tool for traveling. It's very easy to configure. I can log in once to the hotel wifi, and all my families devices are immediately connected. The router will protect each of the devices from being exposed to public wifi. There are many advanced features, including AdGuard, Parental control, and excellent analytics. I don't use it for high-bandwidth applications. I'm mostly limited by the bandwidth of the hotel wifi, so I don't have any personal experience with speed. Srtreaming video seems to work fine. Other reviews state this router is very fast, though. Very portable. Great value.

I bought this for its VPN capability to route all internet traffic over VPN for privacy. Works great, easy to setup. I use this as a wireless bridge in the center of the house to connect to an older Netgear router that is plugged into the cable modem in one of the bedrooms. I get speeds almost twice as fast connecting to this router which then connects across the air to the old router, than connecting directly to the old router. Pretty amazing antennae for such a compact device. Also, I love the power signal range you can choose in the setup, from low to max.

I've been using Glinet routers consistently for the past 5 years. This is their finest work so far and a huge upgrade over the previous generation. The stock GUI has significant improvements for both user experience and advanced customization. Everything just works better, smoother and faster. Of course you can always flash it to run pure open WRT but I have no issues with the stock firmware. Speed? Highly impressive. Wifi 6 is blazing fast. I always run a second router downstream from my ISP router as a repeater for security and customization. I went from getting around 20mbps over the air on my first gen Mudi travel router to 220 with the Slate 6. Haven't tester the speeds over VPN yet but if the initial results are any indication, I expect the performance boost to be a similar multiplier. This unit is sightly larger then previous Glinet travel routers but still fits comfortably in the palm of my hand. When traveling abroad I've found it nearly impossible to find any routers in stores that work as effective repeaters, much less with Open WRT support and router level VPN. Once you get used to these features it's hard to compromise. This device does everything I need in a compact form factor router at an unbeatable price. I'll be buying the Slate 7 as a backup as soon as it is available.

I bought this travel router to use when working abroad, and was recommended via a Youtube video I saw. I followed the instructions on how to install, but this router did not work when using the port forwarding function for AT&T Fiber. I managed to get the router to work using Comcast. So just as an FYI, this might not work on AT&T. So far so good right? For the first few months, this router was working just fine as a travel router with either as my IP address at home or using a VPN service to change my IP address to a specific country. Back in May when I was traveling, there were some router updates that made my router basically not work with either the WireGuard or OpenVPN services. Not sure what happened, but my solution to this was doing a hard-reset and setting things back up again from scratch. After that, my router started to work again. It was a bit frustrating because while the GLinet does recommend updating your router whenever patches get released, these updates rendered my router unusable (until I did a hard reset). Customer service with GLinet is also a bit spotty - if you ever need tech support on this router, you need to post on their web forum on their website, where agents will reply to you usually many hours later. This can also be frustrating! All in all, this router works fine when it actually works. But when it doesn't, then it can be pretty frustrating since you may not get the help you need until much much later. Just a caveat.

A great product for a great price. It was very easy to set up and greatly increased internet speed. It performed really well straight out the box.

For such a small, pocket-sized device, it packs in everything you’d expect from a much larger router—Wi-Fi 6, gigabit speeds, VPN client and server, OpenWrt support, AdGuard Home, USB 3.0, TF card slot…the list goes on. Setup is straightforward, performance is rock solid, and it’s exactly the kind of reliable gear you want when traveling. I’ve used it as a repeater and in hotel/public networks, and it handles everything smoothly without slowing down. The size makes it easy to toss in a bag, yet it still feels durable and well-built. For someone who travels often and likes to stay connected securely, this is a no-brainer. I’ll also be reviewing the Slate 7 as soon as it arrives—I’m excited to see how it stacks up to this little powerhouse.

Inmiddels 3 van deze aangeschaft. Apparaat is lekker compact maar kan ondertussen erg goed met VPN overweg. Je kan hierop ook zelf de VPN server zijn. Bereik met wifi is best goed en de snelheid ook. De Gbit poorten zijn voor de meesten nog ruimschoots toereikend. Heb je echt sneller nodig? De opvolger is er al. Maar die haalt net even lagere VPN snelheden en verbruikt wat meer stroom.
