A great learning resource that links to STEM development.
I love this sorting set which is science themed - it offers a fresh and different take on colour and shape sorting. As a Nursery Practitioner, I am always looking for toys which will inspire and provoke cognitive development and sorting games are a great example of this. Children love to sort and fill items such as boxes, bags and tubs and this activity introduces themes around capacity. This set includes 5 coloured test tubes which stand in a rack, two different types of tweezers, an assortment of small plastic germs in corresponding colours and some pattern cards. Using tweezers is a great way to develop and practise fine motor skills, and it is nice to have a choice of tweezer style in this set. The germs are cute in different shapes, and have little faces for play appeal. There is so much to explore with this game - motor skills, maths concepts such as capacity and quantity, science skills and critical thinking as well as colour pattern and shape. The set looks durable and sturdy, which is great as I always share any toys I am offered for review with my playroom and so this will get a lot of handling. I work with 2 - 3 year olds and so would always closely supervise their play with this set, as this is ideally aimed at children aged 3+. I feel that this would be great for children of a variety of ages, as older children will enjoy exploring the scientific aspect of this game, and it can be linked to STEM learning. The set is not especially cheap at £25, but Learning Resources toys last really well and offer positive learning outcomes that support developmental and curriculum learning. This is a great sorting set that offers a different style of play, and I am delighted with this as an addition to our play shelf.

Good Learning Resources Product
Products from 'Learning Resources' are more often than not, really good quality, and the components within this 'Silly Science' kit match the brand's usual standards, which shouldn't disappoint. We ordered the kit for our granddaughter, who is the recommended age of 3+ (which appears to be appropriate), and has enjoyed playing with and learning from the contents. On the downside, the tools included can be a bit fiddly for small hands to begin with, and a price of £25.00 is perhaps a little expensive for the kit. However, when taking a child's development into consideration, and the replay value of the kit, the price then becomes quite reasonable.

Quality learning toy
This is definitely a nice quality educational toy. My 3 year old loves it. It’s colourful which got her attention straight away and the germs are fun too with the smiley faces on. She easily matched the coloured germs into the corresponding coloured test tubes. Then progressed to following the cards to put various combination colours or shapes into the test tubes to match the cards. This toy will definitely build fine motor skills as well as helping kids build counting, sorting, and matching skills. Not cheap but a quality educational toy.

Highly recommend.
This is a great product for preschool age kiddos (and up through 1st grade I would think). I am a preschool teacher and am always looking for ways to incorporate fine motor skills, sorting, counting, etc. This is perfect for all those things. And the kids really loved using the little tool to pick up the mini germs and put them in the tubes. Also it only took me only one time of showing them how to roll the dice for them to figure out the game of rolling the dice to figure out what color and how many of that color to gather. We have used it 3x's in the classroom and will continue to use it in the future.

well designed, good fun, high quality through and through
We're found the quality of the Learning Resources branded educational toys has been surprisingly high. The parts 'feel' like they're solid and well made. Everything is smooth and finished well, everything is really durable. The concept behind this one is good, it comes with two opposing sets of tweezers, one set requires you to hold the pressure to keep the grips closed, and the other set needs you to maintain pressure to keep the tweezers open. This was really interesting from a parents point of view to see the children have to go through the mental exercise of sussing out how the mechanisms work, and how the input and outputs can be inverted depending on the shape of the levers.

Fun set with learning and play potential
My three-year-old granddaughter really liked this set and, once she had mastered the tongs, was very happy putting the little “germs” into the tubes, matching the colour of the “germs” to the colour of the tube. The set is supplied in a sturdy cardboard box and all the components are of a very high quality; the “germs” are of a good weight and the stand and tubes are robust . As well as colour matching there is shape matching as there are five types of “germs” with each same shape “germ” a different colour. There are also some more advanced colour sequencing and shapes cards as well as two dice, one with colours and one with numbers. Overall this is a good quality set with lots of play and learning potential.

Amazing!
My daughter loves this as she’s just learning about germs. She’s 2.5 months and she’s doing great with these! There are two tweezers in this game set. We have yet to master the big one, but the game is fun, bright and educational. It definitely sparked her attention the moment she saw it. Highly recommend for children who are just learning to handle tweezers.
