Designed and made there by a Chinese manufacturer, even the website is .cn which is domain for China. **Q: Mine freezes on the same track. Updated firmware, used different card, deleted that track and now freezes on different track.** A: I can't say I've experienced anything similar, Geoff so I'm unable to help. Is it a different type of file - perhaps the bit rate is too high or it's a unsupported type of lossless file? Might have to contact manufacturer? **Q: Is there firmware update for this device? i can't get the tagging to work correctly for flac's. album and artist tags don't seem to work.** A: I don't think there is a way to update the firmware. The 'Update' option in the menu is simply to update the file list stored on the Micro SD card. If you search on the Internet for 'Mp3tag software' you should be able to find free software which will allow you to edit the tags on your music files. They also work on FLAC files even though they are often named 'mp3'. Obviously any editing is best done on a PC or Mac before you transfer the files to your SD card. Same applies if you're having trouble displaying album art - have a look for software which using recognised art databases and edit. Was VERY surprised at how solid it feels, it has a weighty feel to it and all the buttons click nicely, it's easy to use and mine is quite fast around the menus etc. Overall build quality seems great especially for the price...the sound quality, oh boy....get a decent set of headphones and put a decent flac file on it and it is amazing! The music is detailed, but smooth, there is nice separation between instruments and the vocals are great, I have my bose quietcomfort connected to it wired( if you have same bose headphone make sure you power it on even though your wired) and have set the equaliser to soft as it boosts the mids and treble slightly and this player beats my old and more expensive Sony hi res player for sound, metal like megadeth sound particularly good on this player but I'm also enjoying hiphop on it.
