Exactly what I needed
I was mainly shopping for a noise machine. When I saw that most of them had clock/alarm too I thought that would be good - I could replace the clock on my nightstand rather than add another item to the tabletop. Very happy with this so far, no complaints. I read a lot of reviews of other items before purchasing, so my comments will focus on items that differ between models. Pros: - My primary need was sound machine. This one has 8 choices which is less than some machines, but one of them was fine for me. After a few weeks using it all night every night I never notice when the audio pattern repeats, which is good. - Some have complained about the volume settings on this or other models. I use this on 1 (lowest) volume, which is fine for me. - Time projects onto the wall or ceiling. This is not necessary, but is nice to have. Compared to other models, this one is extremely flexible with a swiveling piece that can place the projected image just about wherever you want (I display it on the ceiling). You can flip the projection vertically to make sure it's right side up wherever you display it. Reviews said that other models have this display feature but with less flexibility so people find it difficult to put the image in a visible spot or to get it right side up. This one does the projector display right. - Display is big and bright without being distracting at night, both on the machine and the projected image. There's a dimmer buttom to make adjustments. Color is nice, appears slightly bluish white. - Indoor temperature sensor is nice. Cons: - Only one slight con but still giving 5 stars. I'm not sure how accurately it keeps time. After only a few weeks I noticed that it's a little farther off of the "official time" on my cell phone than it was when I first set it. When I say a little farther off, it's probably less than one minute off, but I was surprised that it moved enough for me to notice in only a few weeks. Not Used Yet: - Auto-Off Timer - Radio - Alarm - Smartphone holder - USB charging port

I used "dim It" sheets to lower the light intensity on the numbers
I prefer radio/sound alarm clocks. My cell phone is turned off at night and only the landline phone is available for emergencies. It's true that It's extremely bright, but the clock radio is otherwise excellent. The radio sound on my old clock radio was awful after 20 years. I also used "dim it dots" on the wall projection circle. The extra cost was worth it to me and I used the extra dim it dots on my fan, space heater, landline phone, etc. so it wasn't wasted on just the alarm clock. I'm pleased with the darkness of my room now! It's true that the sound is rather loud because my radio is kept on the number 1 setting and can't go lower, but I remedied this by putting a bit of clear shipping tape over part of the speakers in the back so it's not even visible. If you keep your clock across the room or even a few feet away you might be fine with it.

Good enough - with some caveats
The HoMedics SoundSpa Recharged Sound Machine is a good clock radio. I had a Sony DreamMachine that died after 20+ years of faithful service and was looking for a new clock radio - there are not many options. The speaker (there's only one, pointing out the back) is on the tinny side. The "project the clock on the ceiling" feature - I could live without. The top of the unit has a rubbery mat over the actual buttons - it's possible to hit the right button without looking or being bleary-eyed at 3AM, but you'll probably miss the button you're trying to hit, screw some thing up and have to turn on the light to fix it. The volume levels (they are digital steps, not an analog dial) are too coarse and anything other than 1 or 2 is far too loud for the nature sounds. The backlight has 4 levels, off, bright, really bright and way too freakin' bright. Again - the steps aren't set up for the intended use as a bedside clock radio. You can tone down the back-light with some "dimming sheets" (available on Amazon) Lastly, not a deal breaker for me, but... There is a place to set your iPhone and charge it. BUT - there's no way to listen to your iPhone thru the speaker. HUH??? That doesn't make much sense. The nature sounds are actually quite good (except that they play thru the tinny speaker). But anything other than a volume setting of 1 is too loud. My suggestions for HoMedics - 1) Ditch the projector. 2) Put in a better speaker. 3) Adjust the volume and brightness settings to be more in-line with the intended use - specifically, on a bedside table at night. 4) Add an Aux jack (or iPhone integration) so the iPhone stand is actually useful. 5) Add some tactile "bumps" or something to the top so controls can be "felt" and operated without looking. 6) Add 24 Hour time display. In the current market - there are so few choice, this is about as good as it gets. With some thoughtful re-engineering, this could be a killer clock-radio.

Packed with features at a good price
We've been using Homedics Recharged Alarm Clock & Sound Machine for a few months now. I like to write reviews after having a product for a little while. I saw a few reviews talking about the materials the clock is made of. We've not had any issues and the clock seems to be well built. The clock is easy to program. I really like the fact that it remembers the alarm time and automatically resets it self for the next day. The sound is very good and the radio is easy to tune. Nice selection of sounds with the sound machine. You can set how long the sound plays as you fall asleep and still use the alarm feature to wake up in the morning. I've only used the clock projector a few times. It focuses easily and was easy to see on the ceiling or wall. Also used the battery backup feature. The clock remembers the time and any alarms that are set. What the battery backup will not do is sound the alarm while the power is off.

Not for me Batman-
Unless you have had this same device before and know exactly what to expect, DO NOT PURCHASE! They will not allow returns or refunds as they indicate it is a “medical device.” The white noise sounds are too loud at the very lowest setting. The projection on the ceiling is comparable to the Bat Signal! It was way too bright and lit up the room.

Good but I'm returning it.
This clock works great and has good sound and good FM radio. However, I do not like that there are no buttons to feel your way around in the dark. The only "button" is the Alarm/dimmer button. Every other option from source to tuning to volume is a touchpad. You have to memorize where things are and sometimes in the dark, in the middle of the night, that is difficult. The volume control does not go low enough for me. Even at level one.....I felt it was too loud. However, the cell phone cradle in the back is also where the speaker is. Once I stuffed a washcloth into that space the sound level was diminished but still did not provide me with enough control. The sounds themselves are quite nice. The clock screen is dimmable but again, does not offer enough control for my tastes. Thankfully I purchased a dimming sheet also. I think I bought this one only because of the price point and the sounds but after using only one night, I will be returning it and getting another and unfortunately higher priced one. This time, one with buttons I can feel in the dark and hopefully one with volume dial rather than a number of pre-selected volume levels. I ordered a white HoMedics Model SS 45-20 from Target. (price) I plugged it in to compare with the black one pictured here. 1. Both have good nature sounds. 2. the white one has buttons you can feel in the dark. 3. The clock face brightness is brighter on the white one than they black. I solved this problem with buying a dimmer sheet. It would be nice if both dimmer and clock face were amber instead of blue. Blue light is neither good for the eyes or for sleeping and going back to sleep. 4. the volume control on the white one provides far more control. I can now get the sound down to a very soft level if I want. The black one was too loud even on the lowest volume level of one. 5. Projection feature on the black one will rotate 180 degrees front to back......on the white one, it only goes less than 90. You can focus it however and I found projecting forward was good for me. the projection is BRIGHT. Too bright for my tastes. Again, dimmer film or not using it was the answer. It took a double layer of film to get it dim enough not to bother me, yet I can still see it projected on the ceiling just fine. 6. USB is not a feature on the white one. I really like that idea on the black one too. 7. Neither have AM radio or presets. That might be asking too much huh? I wish a clock radio with nature sounds could be made with amber clock and projection light, USB connection, at least 180 projection, volume level down to a whisper, at least 8 quality nature sounds, and presets, all for under $40. Target also had a better price.

Works well!
Easy to figure out, and looks nice on my night chest! The noise machine has the perfect sounds I was expecting and it could go pretty loud if you want..

Compact Unit, Great Nature Sounds and Nice Projection Feature
Our old clock radio died and my husband asked for a digital projection feature in our new one. I found this and liked the idea of the nature sounds. We both love the nature sounds (the ocean especially) and my husband is thrilled with the projection feature. When he wakes up while it's still dark, he can see what time it is without having to sit up and turn to see the unit on the bedside table. The unit is very compact and the projection light is a cool blue/white and isn't too bright, and I'm pretty sensitive to light. Our ceilings are 10 feet high and the time projection is pointed away from me to the corner of the room to where my husband can see it while sleeping on his side. The ":" in between the numbers blink in the projection, but it isn't an issue for us. We also love the "Snooze" feature where you can go to sleep to the nature sound of your choice for 15, 30 or 45 minutes, or you can simply leave it on all night. I understand that the sounds are all on loops, but we can't tell at all. I have a separate sound bar to charge and play music from my phone, so this is the perfect thing for telling time, going to sleep to peaceful sounds and having an alarm (although we haven't tried setting an alarm yet. I wake up early with the sun.)

Great alarm clock!
Clock seems well made & a good size. Lots of options to wake up to with the sound effects. Nice to have a dimmer option for the time display. My last HoMedics alarm clock lasted 10 yrs, hope this does the same.

Nice alarm clock/sound machine
This is a great alarm clock and sound machine. I read reviews saying it's too loud at lowest setting but I found it is hardly audible at lowest setting. Sleep sounds are good quality. Clock lighting itself is great. Easy to read and not too bright. If you find it too bright holding snooze will dim it. Where it becomes too bright is when you have the projector on. Although the projected image is nice and clear, it turns the alarm into a night light. It's not insanely bright, but it does cut the dark. I wish they had made the cell phone cradle a wireless charger, or at least provided a short USB cable for charging, but it does have a charge option for your phone and the cradle is well executed. All in all very satisfied.

Highly Recommend
Best all in one block I have ever had, no more clutter on my nightstand. The projection light is easily adjustable, it tells you your room temperature, radio and so many sounds to choose from....glad I chose this one
