The headlights actually light up when it moves forwards, while the rear lights light up when it reverses as well.

Is it possible to operate two of these near each other ? I bought two (one for my kid and one for me) but the controllers interfere with each other

No, unfortunately this was a problem that we experienced as well with two different cars; they are both on the same frequency. They will need to be far enough away where it won’t be an issue.
